My sister has to have a breast biopsy.. |
|
She had irregular mammogram results, and had to go back today for another mammogram. They told her that today they would do another mammogram, an ultrasound, and then do the biopsy today if needed.
So, she gets there, and they do the mammogram, and said someone will call tomorrow to set up a biopsy. :wtf:
They didn't tell her where she would be going, they didn't give a number she could call or anything. Why the hell do you tell someone everything would be taken care of in one day, and then throw this crap on her when she is scared?
Anyway, the results showed a few pinhole sized microcalcifications, and none of them were clustered. I hope that's good.
To add to that, I have an early stage melanoma that I have to get removed Friday.
Crap.
Anyone with experience regarding abnormal mammogram results that they can share, I would appreciate it.

I think if it is anything bad, they caught it early. I am just hoping it is nothing.

Irregular mammogram. Ultrasound and then a needle biopsy. Everything was fine. The needle biopsy isn't pleasant but it doesn't take a long time and any discomfort can be taken care of with a dose of tylenol or something similar.
The lump they biopsied was a lobular mass .. sorry I can't remember the exact term. I hope your sister's procedure goes well and everything works out just fine.
Good luck to you also. Try not to worry. (said by the consummate worrier)
Best wishes to both of you.

I think my sister was too shocked to ask questions, and is upset that she doesn't have answers to what she thought would be taken care of today.
I am unsure why they didn't go ahead and do an ultrasound. I don't want to ask her questions when she is just scared.
Thanks for relating your experience.

My sympathies to you and your sister...
I didn't have an abnormal mammogram...I had a fluid leakage from my right nipple. The mammogram showed nothing.
My breast diagnostic center has a much more humane approach to handling patients in crisis; I'm really sorry your sister was treated so callously. It IS a scary time.
I went back for the repeat mammo. and then the ultrasound, which did show something. They did the biopsy then, and I was told I'd be called once they knew what they were dealing with. They did tell me what they thought it was at that time (the time of the biopsy} and told me what to expect in dealing with that.
I eventually had a lumpectomy to remove the papilloma, which is what it turned out to be. This is a pre-cancer. It was not dangerous, and they got it all.
I have no idea about microcalcifications, sorry...
Can she talk to her doctor?
And I sure hope your surgery to remove the melanoma is a resounding success...
Major, major vibes to you both!
Please keep us informed as you can...

I'm glad the docs were able to help you!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I think my sis will be fine, but she is just scared now. It seems like if it is anything, it came up early.
As far as my situation, I've had one before, and it is a pretty simple little surgery under local anesthetic. This is what I get for having light green eyeballs and fair hair and skin. I will probably have to see the Dermatologist every 6 months for quite a while. I guess I am a tad nervous, even though it should be just fine. Being human.

My wife had a normal mammogram on 2-18. On 3-22 she noticed discoloration, swelling and a malformation. We did the biopsy and ultrasound and learned she had ductal carcinoma. Tuesday will be the last chemo session. Surgery is set for October 20.
