can anyone convert a hexidecimal color to pantone? |
|
so, i am taking this web design class, which is hurting my brain. i am spending way to much time just staring at the screen, then sneaking over here, then staring at the screen. i know this is all going to click at some point, but......
anyway, i picked a color from my pantone swatches in photoshop. i have the hex number, but i can't seem to pick it out from those minute little swatches again. i want to pick some related colors. i googled around, and the few conversion charts that have not been shut down by pantone are kinda limited, and this color is not in any of them. doesn't even appear in a google of the hex number itself. anyway, if anyone can find this color as a pantone, i will buy you a  #266ebc

2. Not sure if this site will help you |
|
http://www.netfront.fr/Services/rgb2pantone/It's got a spot to punch in a hex code. It will give you the closest pantone matches. I guess you could do a screen grab and put that into photoshop, and slide the squares next to a swatch of the hex color to see what looks closest side by side.

3. I believe there is no exact equivalent, but |
|
In one program, the closest I could find on-screen was Pantone 3005 C. However in another program Pantone 659 C seemed to be the closest. These are all device-dependent and software-dependent though. I don't think Pantone will ever truly apply to web design because Pantone started as a print-based standard. Even if you were to find an exact match, the Pantone book still will never match exactly what is seen on screen. It can only match printed output on paper from a printing press.

Trying to match print to screen is an arduous task at best. You'll get close, but you will never get exact, because of the difference in the mediums.
You're best off to go to an online converter and plug in the numbers and hope for the best.

you can have any of the color libraries as swatch panels. pretty cool. a good design tool. just gotta remember to save your swatch if you want to use it later.

5. thanks, you were close. |
|
figured out how to back into it in photoshop, and it gives my 660. i knew there had to be a way to do it backwards, but i was too tired to figure it out. which is why the whole project is going so slowly. i work on it in the evenings when i am too tired to do anything that i can't do sitting down. saved the swatch now, so i should be ok.
thanks to all.
