More blood work today. Another PSA test. |
|
Came in at 4.23 three weeks ago at a free 'health fair'. Over 4 indicates 'possibility' of prostrate cancer. See the doc Thursday for the digital exam. The 'finger wave'. Guess I'll know more then. Gettin' a bit apprehensive. We'll see. whew :eyes:

2. best to you - my father had advanced numbers and has had the dx for |

years. It is very treatable with a good prognosis.

My dad had a PSA test a month ago and it went up from a 4.54 last year to 9.8 this year. They think it might be an infection because the biopsy came out negative (although, they could still miss cancer in a biopsy).

but don't dare beef about a "finger wave" to us gals, who routinely have cold shoe horns shoved in us and our insides scraped by a fingernail file as part of our, er, "exams"

The good news is that it's very treatable if caught early.
Let us know!

8. Thanks for all the good vibes and info. |

There is a WEALTH of info on the internets about prostrate cancer (detection/diagnosis, treatment/possible side effects, etc,.) Sometimes TMI? More than you want to know.
Right now, before I see how my DRE (Digital Rectal Exam) goes tomorrow, my chances are 3 to 1 I don't have cancer. 4.0 to 9.9 PSA is a 'gray area'. Maybe so, maybe not, but the lower the number, probably not.
About 'DREs'. It just cracks (No pun intended ;-)) me up the euphemisms (or whatever) the medical profession comes up with. DRE Digital (FINGER!) Rectal (MY BUTT!) Examination (UP My Butt!). OK, it's not actually painful. But it's damned uncomfortable to have someone palpate your prostrate gland.
Another favorite: "The patient exsanguinated." They BLED to death. Gee, 'exsanguinated' sounds SO much 'nicer'. :eyes:
I guess I'll also get the results of Monday's PSA test tomorrow. I think I'll go fix a nice strong Scotch. :-)
