"Hell is other people." - Sartre
Truer words have never been spoken. I swear, :banghead: some days I want to retreat into the hills and be a hermit so I won't have to deal with the DISRESPECTFUL and CONDESCENDING people in my life.

1. He's brilliant.
I have been reading much of his work in dialectical reasoning and his progressive-regressive theoretical approach. Hell is other people because their gain in resources could mean the loss of your resources. The perception we have of our possibles in the practico-inert field is sometimes clouded by the lack of mass effort to negate the negation that oppresses us and maintains an asymmetrical distribution of resources. In short, we become disillusioned because opposing a policy, say, feels impotent in the absence of a unified collective praxis, even while we may acquire a positive benefit from the policy.

In a word: People SUCK. We place so much faith in human nature in our society when, quite honestly, humanity as a collective will not come through for the greater good... or at least to oppose negative oppressive forces. People are selfish and bound to reify the idea of bullshit into actual bullshit as practice.

4. Humanity is a pack of wolves looking out only for themselves.
Those who believe otherwise are the sheep waiting to be devoured.

3. When I read No Exit, it was like a ray of light...
it's so true. It's humanity. The perfect depiction of it.

8. I don't know why you've never noticed...
but I hardly get through a month without discussing Sartre. To wit:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=9131072&mesg_id=9131201
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=7839141&mesg_id=7839273

I excluded the 2 dozen off-hand "Hell is other people's" I posted without deeper discussion and the picture post under "People who influenced you".

I love to talk about Sartre...he's also been the topic of a number of Lounge threads.

7. I completely agree. I can take small doses of people, other than that I find them annoying.
If it were not for people the world would have far fewer problems.

10. I have to make the Red Dwarf reference.
Holly: Jean-Paul Sartre said hell was being locked forever in a room with your friends.
Lister: Holly, all his mates were French.
