1. Beautiful. They are rather lovely creatures, aren't they. But also
good for transportation, for instance, if you were to go camping.

4. It's a she actually, and so do I
I call it her kissing spot. She's a nut, only 4 years old so she's still very much a baby. Lots of endearing characteristics. I love her to pieces. :)

8. Isn't it called a star?
I remember in the old westerns that they referred to the white spot on the horses forehead as a star. Your horse is beautiful and her face looks so gentle.

Did a quick google search and sure enough I found it. I love to look at horses (never had one) and I find even this site interesting.

9. It is indeed a star
And the marking on her lip is called a snip. Also a kissing spot. :)

She is a lovely, gentle girl though she has plenty of spirit and fire. Thanks. :hi:

5. do you compete?
I miss horses so much. I don't know that I could go back on the show circuit, but I would give almost anything to be able to keep a horse again.

7. Not anymore - I did in the past
Low level eventing and hunter classes for the most part. Then I foxhunted for years with a drag hunt (for the uninitiated, that means we didn't hunt live fox - the hounds followed a scent that was laid down by a person who ran on ahead with a scent bag).

I bought Bella in June off the track - she's coming along really nicely but I'm taking it very slow. I mainly want her as a pleasure and trail horse but I may do some low level/fun showing with her. There is a drag hunt in the area too, so if she reaches the point where she's ready for that, I may do some of that.

Mostly though, I just love having a horse, working with her, riding with friends, that sort of thing. It's the companionship and relationship that I love.

10. very cool
I can't handle the cross-country stuff, eventing and the hunt. I am not sure what it is, but I have never been comfortable in an english saddle on the trails. I'll go out on a trail ride in a western saddle, no problem. I guess it is that the fences don't come down. I rode show jumpers and jumping didn't bother me a bit, not even grand prix size jumps, but I can't deal with 3ft high permanent fencing. :)

I want to get into dressage. I am too old for jumpers. I would love to take baby green horses off the track and teach them. I don't know if I will ever get the opportunity, but I think of it often. I am envious of your lovely mare and your setup. :D

11. Thanks
I hope you get the opportunity. A life without horses for someone who loves them is a life with an empty spot in it.

17. Thank you
She is a 4 year old Thoroughbred and I think she's built pretty beautifully. She is a great-granddaughter of Seattle Slew which doesn't hurt and is probably where she gets her coloring as he was a dark bay.

16. Ooh, pretty!
When I was a kid/teen I had a horse that looked similar (although not quite as fine-boned as your horse). He was a Quarter/Morgan gelding, dark bay, but in the summer he was almost black and in the winter he was more like your horse's color.

:hi:
