New lab results. PSA now at 7. |

Disclaimer: I'm not posting my experience with possible prostrate cancer to get good wishes, etc., although I do appreciate them. Thank you all. I'm posting it because many here face the same situation or will. According to my doctor, every man, if he lives long enough, WILL have prostrate cancer. She called it "the worst organ in your body. It the only organ that guarantees you have cancer if you live long enough."
I was floored when she told me my PSA count (Protein Specific Antigen)is now at 7. It was 4.23 a month ago. A rise in PSA 'CAN' be a precursor to prostrate cancer. But not necessarily. :-(
The 'good' news...sorta, I guess. My CRP is also high. (C-reactive protein (CRP) is a protein found in the blood, the levels of which rise in response to inflammation) So, I may 'merely' have an inflamed or enlarged prostrate gland. It's not uncommon in older men. I'm 68. Either one is no picnic, but at least it ain't cancer.
Tomorrow I have an appointment with a urologist. Those are the docs who initially deal with this condition. I'm guessing that eventually I can look forward to a prostrate biopsy. Again, no picnic, in and of itself. The 'not knowing for sure' is the worst. :eyes:
I think I'll start a journal about this journey. And I'll keep y'all posted. Call it PSA-PSA Announcement. ;-)

My husband went through somewhat the same thing. Ended up with a biopsy and later prostate surgery. No cancer, thank goodness. He's been fine ever since. That was about eight years ago. He said the biopsy was a bit uncomfortable. They took seven snips of tissue. Good luck....z
