Post your Dream Job
I got laid off this week from a SHITTY UNDERPAID, OVERWORKED P.O.S. job and now I have the "opportunity" to do something that I want to do (- that is the way it was pitched to me by a happy happy family member).

Okie Dokie, if you were able to get your dream job, what would it be? It has to be a real job done by real people.

I have two, brewmaster or brewmaster trainee for a very small micro brew pub, or park ranger.

Did you know that someone has to die for a position at the National Park Service to open up.

What's your dream job?

17. It depends on what you mean by resources and people?
If you understand that the root of all resources is money (unfortunately) then that would be a rather concise description of what I did when I was a development coordinator for the the local literacy council. All day long, raising funds to run programs. It's not a great job unless you really love hitting people (other organizations, foundations, donors) up for money; I did.

19. Our local United Way runs a 2-1-1 program like that...
the city of NY runs one as well for city services except it's I believe 3-1-1. (I never paid much attention, the signs are postered all over the subway.)

I don't know how to get involved with it, but I'm sure if you contacted them and asked, they'd be glad to answer questions. One part of their service-provision is providing access to volunteer opportunities in the community. (I do believe it's all volunteer, but I am not certain). I can tell you those people are absolute angels, the work is occasionally miserable and demand goes up this time of year. I know they train the heck out of their operators.

21. Yes, you're probably right that it's a volunteer position, and that it may be miserable, at times.
I think that people in need are in a lot of misery, sometimes. And it's probably frustrating when there's just not enough help for everyone who needs it. I'm afraid that this Christmas is gonna be so hard for so many. :(

Really, pretty much any intake position will give you a great opportunity to hook up clients with available resources. That can be pretty rewarding.

15. I would be a Candlemaker.
Edited on Fri Dec-04-09 01:13 AM by Jamastiene
I wouldn't have to handle the distribution or retail portion of the job.

I would just make the candles and hire an "agent" to handle actually selling them and distributing them to the places that would stock and sell them.

I would just design and make the candles. I have some ideas for a candle wax "fountain" kit too, but I would have to get a metal company to make the molds and fit them all together...somehow according to how it is in my head.

I could make candles the rest of my life if I had enough money and space and/or someone to sell them to.

Second on my list, but with the same "agent" concept (to distribute and sell the stuff I make) would be carpentry. I would just make nightstands, bird houses, bookcases, altars, and other stuff for the "agent" to sell.

I would be perfectly happy doing either the candle making or the carpentry. Those two things, above all else make me the happiest, except for maybe gardening, but I'm keeping my veggies...nom nom nom nom.

I really want to work somewhere that people come in to complain, but where I don't have to take abuse from them. I want to have the option of either hooking them up or screwing them over if they try to treat me like shit. I'll run a debt collections and repo/low interest debt refinancing. So I'll take assholes stuff, and offer low interest loans to nice people to get them out of debt trouble.
