A word about George C. Scott as Scrooge: Great. |
|
I just watched the 1984 made for TV (CBS) 'A Christmas Carol' with George C. Scott, David Warner and Edward Woodward. It is wonderful from the first scene to the last.
Filmed in the town of Shrewsbury, England it looks convincingly Dickensian but it is Scott's portrayal that raises this version above so many of the rest. This Scrooge is not a cartoonish caricature. He is a man, a fully realized human being.
In 1951 Alistair Sim gave a bravura performance in "Scrooge". It is a joy watching a great actor at the top of his game. In his darker, more introspective way George C. Scott is just as great. Highly recommended.

Patton and Dr. Strangelove are both big favorites of mine, and he's awesome in both. This version of Scrooge is the only one I really like, outside of the Blackadder Christmas Special.

2. I'm A Huge George C. Scott Fan, BUT........ |
|
....when it comes to movies of "A Christmas Carol," I don't think anybody can top Alastair Sim in the 1951 "Scrooge." It doesn't really seem like Christmas to me until I see it, every year.......
