That shit should be locked in the controlled substance section of the baking aisle.

Someone please stop me.

2. Combine with the coffee-crack, Vietnamese style
Use any size glass, so long as the proportions remain the same:

1/3 glass sweetened condensed milk
2/3 glass strong-brewed coffee, preferably in one of those individual presses that sit on top of the glass.

Stir until completely mixed.
Pour over ice.
Stay awake until 4am the next day :P

10. If you have some rum extract or dried cherries and a smidge of butter,
you have the makins for a trip to heaven.

SLOWLY melt about a teaspoon to a tablespoon of butter, 16 - 24 oz semi-sweet, choc ships, with a can of your new addiction, and keep stirring so it doesn't scorch. Low heat, or even double boiler works well.

When melted and blended, ad a bit of vanilla (or the rum extract, or orange extract for fun) and let cool a bit. Scoop out onto waxed paper or a plate and let cool. It will 'solid up'. Cut into squares when cool.

You can play with the recipe: add chopped dried cherries after melted, or experiment with different extracts, add orange zest, or walnuts, or almonds.

Play, be free, enjoy. Easy goodie for office treat, Christmas presents for the neighbors, just to have on hand in case of company, guilty pleasure while watching a movie, all snuggled up in a blanket.

You are now gonna need to buy that milk by the case each holiday season!

13. This can be made in the microwave.
Edited on Sat Dec-05-09 06:16 PM by surrealAmerican
Just dump a bag of chocolate chips (either semi-sweet or milk chocolate) into a large bowl.

Pour in a can of sweetened condensed milk.

Microwave just long enough for the chips to melt when you stir them (they will still maintain their shape before you stir).

Stir, and pour into a buttered pan. (If you want to add nuts, fruit, or marshmallows, do that just before pouring.)

Refrigerate until sold.

The very very best - and easiest - fudge in the ever-lovin world!! Some walnuts add to the texture too, since it's so smooth and creamy.

21. Good thing to remove the label that warns against doing this
Note: You must make sure that the can is always totally covered with water. Never let the water level get down to the top of the can, because this could cause the can to explode. - This is a statement that will never appear on any can.

26. It is my good friend
I've been too poor to buy real coffee and have been buying instant instead. Flavoring that stuff with sweetened condensed milk has kept me from hazzing a sad.

Incidentally, for people with strong hearts and constipated bowels, I found the cure. Drink instant coffee. Yikes!

27. since we're confessing ...
They sell that stuff in tubes too, like toothpaste, for camping. I knew I shouldn't but I bought a tube once and I didn't go camping at all, I kept it in the fridge and sucked on that mother whenever I wanted a sweetness hit. Oh it was gooooood. But it upset my moral equilibrium, so I never done it again.

I do it with Maple Syrup instead. And I'm a better person for it.

29. Pounding a tap into a bunch of helpless trees is morally superior to milking a cow?
Cows need to get rid of milk regularly. Trees probably use their sap ;)

pssst, ever hide almond paste in the fridge to nibble for sweet?

32. oh dear, I hadn't thought
My mum was always saying "Think, velvet! Think!" but I never quite got the hang of it.

Feel suitably chastened now, thank you. Those poor trees. Now this "almond paste" is indeed a tasty alternative - but no almonds suffered in the making, right?

35. um, with this whole exchange, I was making light of YOUR interjection of moral compass
"I do it with Maple Syrup instead. And I'm a better person for it."

Guess you didn't get the fact that I was ribbing you for that?

36. well yes
At the risk of expanding this exchange far beyond its weight in calories, I got it. But you, in your culinary wisdom, had shown me how wrong I was and steered me in the right direction. And of course I was grateful and if I could find a nice pic of a kitty and an almond (not a maple) tree I would post one now as a way of saying thank you ... but sadly I have to go to work.

:)
