1. I was never the world's biggest George Thorogood fans, but...

...I always thought covering the song was a wise early-career decision on his part.

I grew up in a home filled with the sounds of Hank, Buck Owens, Cowboy Copas, Jim Reeves, Eddy Arnold, Chet Atkins, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash...

Hank was a lot like Johnny Cash...they may have been "country" performers, but they were really rock stars. Hank was Axl Rose in a Nudie suit and hat.

:toast:

ON EDIT: What I forgot to say is that Hank Williams III seems to have been the heir to the Hank Senior mojo, while Hank Jr took a sharp left at "ignorant redneck."

The song is pure rock.

I wonder if Social-D ever did a cover of this...

3. It would be a natural for them...
...my single favorite song of theirs is "Ghost Town Blues," which has more than a touch of Hank in it. I always considered that song to be a darker cousin to Dwight Yoakam's "Long White Cadillac," written about Hank's last ride.

I don;t know if you ever saw a book called "Rock Dreams" by artist Guy Peellaert...his work graced the covers of The Stones' "Only Rock & Roll" and Bowie's "Diamond Dogs"...

...but there was a portrait of Hank's last ride in that book. On one hand, it's a bit morbid. On the other hand, Hank went out with his boots on...literally...and I think it succeeds on that level.

5. YouTube apparently deep-sixed the "official music video"...
...too bad, because it is a black and white visual treat, and Dwight rocks out pretty aggressively at the end, after the "Ahhhhhhhh, By Bye Baby" bit.

I know I've posted it at LEAST once on DU...that's how I found out it was gone, when I returned with the intention of a repost.

10. Hank Sr. Kicks the shit out of modern "country" entertainers
and yes I said entertainers not artists. I think that he is probably one of my favorite song writers
