Bowl Games announced
BCS "Title" Game: Alabama vs. Texas
Rose: Oregon vs. Ohio St.
Orange: Iowa vs. Georgia Tech
Sugar: Florida vs. Cincinnati
Fiesta: Boise St. vs. TCU
Cotton: Ole Miss vs. Oklahoma St.
Gator: Florida St. vs. West Virginia
Liberty: Arkansas vs. East Carolina
Capital One (Citrus): Penn St. vs. LSU
Alamo: Texas Tech vs. Michigan St.
Sun: Oklahoma vs. Stanford
Outback: Northwestern vs. Auburn
Papa John's: UConn vs. South Carolina
Chick-fil-A (Peach): Virginia Tech vs. Tennessee
Insight: Minnesota vs. Iowa St.
International: South Florida vs. Northern Illinois
Texas: Missouri vs. Navy
Armed Forces: Houston vs. Air Force
Holiday: Nebraska vs. Arizona
Champs Sports: Miami (FL) vs. Wisconsin
Independence: Georgia vs. Texas A&M
Music City: Clemson vs. Kentucky
Emerald: BC vs. USC
Meineke Car Care (really): North Carolina vs. Pitt
Little Caesar's (Motor City): Marshall vs. Ohio
Hawaii: SMU vs. Nevada
Poinsettia: California vs. Utah
Las Vegas: BYU vs. Oregon St.
New Orleans: Southern Miss vs. Middle Tennessee
St. Petersburg: Rutgers vs. UCF
New Mexico: Fresno St. vs. Wyoming

HATE seeing TCU and Boise denied the chance to knock off a power conference team. I have no doubt that either would smoke Iowa or Georgia Tech.

Iowa and Georgia Tech have no business playing in a BCS bowl. Remember, this is the same Iowa that needed two botched field goals to beat Northern Iowa.

Clemson vs. Kentucky in the Music City could actually be a fun game to watch.

A few of these games have "blowout written all over them: BC, Northern Illinois, and Northwestern are in for a tough road.

3. It's basically an Aggies home game
A lot of the non-BCS games grabbed a team with a lot of alums within driving distance. The Liberty Bowl (Arkansas), Gator (Florida St.), Meineke (UNC), New Orleans (Southern Miss), Alamo (Texas Tech), and St. Pete (UCF) all have a team wih a strong local presence.

5. BCS is BS
Edited on Sun Dec-06-09 09:31 PM by blueknight
they didnt want to match boise or TCU with iowa and ga tech or the like because they knew their bcs teams would get their asses kicked and show how flawed their system is. it is a sham, and a fraud. look at this, kentucky has the same record as auburn, comes from the same conference as auburn, BEAT auburn, but goes to the lowly music city bowl, while auburn goes to the much more prestigous outback bowl. WTF?

4. I'd like to make a motion...
that we rename the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl this year: I'd like to call it the "Tostitos Fuck You BCS Bowl."

Who's with me?

6. Remember that this is also the same Iowa team
that beat everybody in their way except a pretty good Northwestern team, who has always given them trouble, and also came within three points of beating Ohio State. Yeah, the Hawks definitely deserve a BCS bowl. And Georgia Tech won the ACC, so they are the team placed in the Orange Bowl.
Iowa wins 28-17. And East coasters will suck it because there is no real college football team out there.
And Auburn is overrated. Northwestern will be all over them. It's really too bad that Iowa Stae didn't get matched up against them though because Chizik needs some karmic (and actual) ass kicking by the team he abandoned.

18. Two things
Iowa had more shaky wins than any team in Division I:

*Beat UNI after two botched field goals
*Beat Arkansas State by a field goal
*Beat Michigan State by 2 points
*Beat Michigan by 2 points

They aren't a bad team, but I think they benefited from the Big Ten having a bit of a down year this season.

Second, the ACC is not a legitimate power football conference. VT and FSU are usually the exception, but neither was able to get it together on a consistent basis this year. I don't think they are any better than the Mountain West or Conference USA.

7. I love seeing USC in the Emerald bowl
how the mighty have fallen

Penn State - LSU should be a good game.

But really, the Powers That Be were and ARE never going to let a mid-conference team like Cincy, Boise, or TCU into their precious national championship. I'd bet any money that had Texas lost, they'd just have Florida-Alabama do a rematch. Anything to ensure only the traditional powers can compete for the nat'l championship.

8. Go SMU!
First bowl game since 1983! I was there in the Cotton Bowl when the Ponies beat Pittsburgh with Dan Marino as their quarterback. After SMU got the NCAA Death Penalty in 1985 they have been all but nonexistent as far as football goes. Go Ponies!

11. I wish they'd been able to match TCU with a BCS team
They've got a good team this year, and they were ever so close to being in the big game ...

13. They could have
They just didn't want to. I'd much rather see TCU and Boise have a crack at a BCS conference team. There's no doubt in my mind that the Frogs and the Broncos are both better than Georgia Tech, Iowa, and probably Cincinnati.

Now, we are guaranteed to have an undefeated team that gets screwed. I wish there was a way to have the Bama/Texas winner play the TCU/Boise winner.

19. The myth of schedule strength
Florida played Troy, Charleston Southern, and Florida International

The ACC had a .500 record against the Division 1-AA Colonial Athletic Association.

The "strength of schedule" has less to do with who is actually a quality opponent and more to do with who was a good team when the sportswriter was a kid.

22. It's no myth, Sox.
You walk in to State College, Madison, East Lansing and Columbus with your only loss being in overtime at OSU, I'd say ya' done good.
Talk of Boise or TCU 'beating our ass' is pure speculation. I would have loved to play either of them. Not to be. No one has a crystal ball. When you talk of kicking Iowa's ass, it means you haven't studied Ferentz's bowl history. Look it up.

Gonna make our ex-head coach Bobby Bowden cry tears into his beer all the way to his retirement home.

They're a better team than FSU (coasting on its reputation and Bowden nostalgia; they shouldn't be in the Gator).
