We put them out in bowls on tables for a party we had, and she got to the bag on the coffee table before anyone got here.

She's a 60 pound golden and the vet said she would have to eat about 4-6 pounds of chocolate to be lethal...just watch for diarrhea. Oh, great! It's -5 degrees in Montana tonight! I'll keep my boots, gloves, hat and parka by the bed.

Poor thing got a bad case of the burps.

=(

1. How long ago did she eat it? You could try some hydrogen peroxide to get her to barf it up.
Expect her to be restless and thirsty all night.

4. Gah, good luck with it -- I had a big dog eat a couple pounds several years ago.

Fortunately, he liked the taste of activated charcoal as well.

2. I guess you can chew foil when you don't have any fillings in your teeth.
Good to hear the chocolate wasn't a lethal amount. Could be worse though. My friend's golden used to eat socks. And .... well I'll just say that they don't digest as well as chocolate, and spare the graphic details. :scared:

5. Dark chocolate is much worse for dogs than milk chocolate.
We like that 70-80% cacao stuff, and that high concentration of theobromine would be hard on a dog's heart.
I hope all goes well and comes out in the end, so to speak.

6. I think she'll be ok
As big as she is I doubt that's enough chocolate to kill her, and as far as the foil goes, hell, I saw my 70lb APBT/Pointer mix poop out a whole plastic freezer bag one time. :wow:

most big dogs are pretty hearty, my money is on her being ok ;)

How is she? Did you get the Hershey kisses "back"?! I would expect they look about the same coming out as they did going in..

14. Doesn't it just crack you up to imagine the work and focus it took to do that?

18. I came home once to find an empty bunch of bananas.
The bunch was still attached at the stem, but every banana peel was empty and my dog wouldn't meet my eyes. OH, I wish I could have seen that.

23. It amazes me how they think to do that - you'd think they would just gobble it up.
I am sure they are much more clever than we think they are.

22. She will probably get serious gas - it will bother you more than her.
Our late dog ate an entire 5 pound box of christmas chocolate candy with no ill effects.

Our current dog prefers butter - has already eaten a quarter pound at one time. He licks it like ice cream.

They can reach a lot higher than you would think when they are motivated.....
