1. Oh, come on. You gotta know that doing dental work is way more fun |
|
than sewing them up, unless you get to sew back on an entire body part. You get one like that, and you have out done your basic dentist. dc

2. Nope. My wife is a dental hygienist. She's starting to hate it and to wish she had thought |
|
to go to PA school.
For the variety of things I get to do, if nothing else. Plus, her work is really taking it out of her hands and wrists.

did a wound vac on this guy's 3rd open heart surgery wound today. Fucking A, he is split wide open and when he coughs you can see the split open and shut. The split is in the center of a wound that is over 12 inches long and about 4 inches wide and about 5 centimeters deep. Awesome.
Also saw my first prolapsed uterus today.
yeah, life is good B-)

5. the craziest thing I ever saw when I worked in an ICU... |
|
...was when a nurse gave an orange milkshake to a nun who had been opened up three times in two weeks from stem to stern (can't remember the original problem) and was just beginning to recover. Off the ventilator, finally able to take something by mouth. God almighty, a bit later the nurse reported that the orange milkshake was seeping through the wound on her belly. Sure enough. Back to the O.R.!
Oh, there was another wild time when a horrible burn victim came into ICU. He was lathered up with Silvadene. Shortly thereafter, he couldn't breathe -- swollen tissues. Needed to go to the OR for an emergency trach and the quickest way was right through the hospital lobby. Here's this big guy, sitting bolt upright on the bed, covered with that gunk, and being raced through the lobby. Way to scare the citizens!
