1. Damn, I misread the poll...
I voted for 18 below, and it should have been just plain 18 degrees. I went back to DC last January and it was 18 degrees!

I thought I would freeze to death! It just does not get that cold here in CA...:scared:

3. 11 degrees and dropping here at the moment
supposed to get down to 8 or so. Very rare to get below 25 around here, and even when it happens, it's usually January or February.

It did actually get a few degrees below 0 a few years ago, so I had to go outside for a little while just to see what it felt like. Oddly enough, not much colder than 0. Or I just couldn't feel it.

Only blessing in all of this is that it's been dry, so there's no ice on the roads or sidewalks.

the tinny creaking sound like they were going to break ff in your hand.

6. Colder...
Lived in a converted School Bus/Rv with a small wood burning stove for heat on the east shore of Lake Champlain just outside of Burlington Vt for the winter of 93/94.

More than one nite of-40 or colder,Lets not even discuss the wind chill coming off the Lake!

7. -23º a couple of times.
I could hear the outer shell of my overcoat stiffening up.

Of course right now it's like less than +10º right now, and the wind chill is pushing -10º.

Unusual for early December. I'm going to have to break out the heavy winter coat now!

8. 24 I think? We don't really do cold here.
Maybe I've popped out of the car for long enough to use the restroom in Truckee or something in worse, but it doesn't really get lower than the 20s (and that in the middle of the night) in the valley.

10. Anyone who says you don't feel the difference above or below a certain point hasn't felt them
If anything, ever degree hurts harder once you get below -5 and above 115.

21. I walked a mile to school in -20 degree weather. No biggie.
Right around 0 to -5 it becomes harder to be outside with any exposed skin, so you just wear more face coverings and maybe heavier mittens (not gloves, because mittens trap and circulate the body heat better.)

OTOH, I think every degree above 100 here (and 90 in a humid climate)is noticeable.

And I remember getting out of a car to wait at a bus stop and the car's thermometer said -2 degrees. That was horribly painful cold.

With the wind it was -60C. When I got to work that day,I tried an experiment I saw on tv. I through a glass of water into the air. There was a huge puff of steam, and only little frozen pellets fell to the ground.

25. -15 or so, Portland Headlight, ME
Couple of days after Christmas. I was as bundled up as I could possibly be, longjongs, sweater, overcoat and hood, and still about froze my fanny off! We were only out there for about 10 minutes or so. My then hubby's aunt and uncle lived in Grey ME. Probably still do. It was a lovely trip and I really enjoyed it. The snow came the week after we left.

:scared: :scared: :scared:

But it was very pretty and I hope to go back. Next time in summer! :D

32. -5 is an important milestone
Chicago, late '80s.

-5 is the temperature at which mucus congeals within the human nose into a substance closely resembling rubber cement. :puke:

34. About 30 below when I lived in Nebraska. Maybe lower when I lived on Colorado's western slope,
but it doesn't feel as cold when you're skiing or snowboarding in Vail as it does when you're shoveling your car out of snow drifts created solely by the city snow removers in Nebraska. Perspective and all.

36. Define "Out In"
I have fought house fires at minus 15F. Where the spray freezes to everything. And I have had to get the cars started/defrosted at closer to minus 25F. The former was much more sucky than the latter.
