I love jewelry
Edited on Wed Dec-09-09 04:41 AM by JCMach1
I don't get to wear it too much as a guy, but when I moved to Asia I gained a new appreciation for it.

Why? AMERICAN jewelry is BORING! For the most part at least.

Here, the traditions go back thousands of years, intermingle, and get mixed up with modern fashion.

I also learned to love stuff when I begin selling some stuff back to the states over EBAY (don't do it now).

The history and beauty can be amazing.

1. You must be shopping at Kays, if you think American jewelry is boring.

3. Speaking in general... walk into any retail area here and you can find
amazing stuff.

In the U.S. you have to look (sometimes pretty hard).

5. I'll take one of each.
Someone had a "What would you REALLY spend your winnings on if you won the lottery?" thread yesterday. I should have added that I'd blow a huge wad of the winnings on Southwestern Native American jewelry, kachinas, and other art. There are several pairs of Zuni inlay earrings that I'm lusting over as I type this.

However, I am mostly partial to Hopi silver. I like the clean lines.

2. I got out of the habit of wearing jewelry
Might have something to do with the fact that I play with electricity.

8. I've gotten some lovely things from Afghanistan
from my husband, that he got in a bazaar in Kabul. Really old-looking, Islamic-themed necklaces and earrings. I'm not so much into modern, cookie-cutter type jewelry, I like vintage, estate pieces, but the jewelry from that area is very nice. It may not be pure silver or real stones, but it's well-made and beautiful.
