1. Yeah, me too... although I didn't get into it until late.
Looks like they're only putting out the first 4 seasons on DVD... maybe the rest will be available "on demand" at some point.

12. I wish Fox would get off the back foot and release season five on DVD
It was the last full season with Smits, and a nice return to form after the meandering fourth season (especially the harrowing two-parter "Lost Israel", arguably the series' finest hour).

11. his character always made my neck hairs stand on end
especially when he was doing the big-talking tough guy routine...i kind of wanted to scream at the TV "you wouldn't last 30 seconds down south with that bullshit, bitch!"

terrible replacement, IMO.

6. Me too - I watched an episode last night
Season 3 episode 12 where Diane's dad is killed. Great show. Still high quality writing even after Smitts left. Any of yall who gave up after that missed another great 5 years of NYPD Blue.

10. What? You're not getting enough of David Caruso's pregnant pauses on CSI Miami?
Nah. I know. I loved the show too.
But is it just me, or has Caruso turned into an utterly mannered ham?

28. Caruso is the worst actor ever.
But also one of the best. He's so bad he's good, esp. on CSI: Miami. Love that show, and love him.

13. That show taught me to ALWAYS squeeze the perp's shoes before he lawyers up
Unfortunately, as a series, there was NO continuity. The revolving door of detectives and captains never allowed anyone to be "grounded," which meant that Dennis Franz carried most of the series on his back.

:toast:

17. Franz was indeed the shit - seems the writers finally got that in the final seasons
That HE was the focus, not Smitts, not Caruso, not Ricky, or the other guy even though all but Caruso were good. Also not a show with tons of action, but still a well written drama bout 90% of the time which is way better than most shows.

Never looked at it like that but Dennis WAS the constant and probably the most diverse character in the series...

19. I really miss Hill Street Blues
The first 4 seasons were unbeatable, and Bruce Weiz as Mick Belker was one of the most underrated great characters in TV.

32. They don't make 'em like that anymore. . .
I remember watching the 1st season while I was at college in Rochester, NY. I wondered what all the commotion initially was about.

I was hooked! Of course, I had an odd favorite character--Officer Martinez (and Gina, who literally disappeared from one season to the next).

I actually wrote a poem after the ep where Det. Simone died (I'd later re-word it for Pat Tillman)
