it's supposed to start warming up tomorrow, but we're not expected to break freezing for another couple of days.

1. Wasn't it Carlin that did the cold car thing? Try to start it. Car says "Leave me a-LL-L0-LO-O-ne" |
|
But you know it is REALLY cold when the dog's piss freezes before it hits the ground!

3. My late father-in-law showed me a trick when I lived in N.W. PA. |
|
Get a ceramic ceiling-mount light fixture (like in a basement) and a 3 lb coffee can (or however little they put in what used to be a 3 lb can). Poke a hole in the side of the can near the bottom. Snip the socket end off of a cheap extension cord and pass it through the hole into the inside. Wire it to the light fixture. Use a 60W bulb and put it under the oil pan of the car. Run an extension cord out to it and plug it in before bed. By morning, the car will be happy to fire right up. I used it on everything from a dinky 4-banger to a 455 V-8 and it worked great. It came in REALLY handy when I moved to N.H.

7. True, but at the time I was in college and this didn't cost anything. |

He had the parts sitting around in his garage with no plans to use them for anything else.
Free is good, especially when you're in college.
On Edit:
Plus, I used it on multiple cars over the course of 20 years. It is still in the garage somewhere.
