Does anyone get really itchy when they swim in a chlorinated pool?
I swim twice a week, which I love. However, I do not love the intense itching sensations that come with it! I do shower thoroughly after, but I still get itchy while I'm in the pool, and stay itchy after.

Sadly, a saltwater pool is not an option. The only one I know of in this city is out of the way for me and costs a gym membership I can't afford.

Is there anyway to prevent this, or should I just suck it up?

1. Is it your own pool, or a public/shared pool?
If it is your pool, I'd say add extra acid. If it is a shared pool, I'd ask the lifeguards or whoever is in charge of pool maintenence to add acid.

2. I do - need to rinse off after you're done swimming
I love to swim too but I can only swim in outdoor pools. Indoor public pools are so overly chlorinated that I get nauseated at teh smell of them.

6. Quite possibly.
The OP might not be the only one having a problem with the particular pool.

4. here's a product that might help
Gloves In A Bottle is a shielding lotion that rapidly absorbs into, and bonds with, the outer layer of skin creating a protective layer while retaining the natural moisture from within. This makes it the perfect dry skin care product.

It does not wash off, but comes off naturally with exfoliated skin cells. Just reapply every four hours for continued protection.

It's greaseless, non-sticky, fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, completely safe and non-toxic.

Used and recommended daily for dry skin conditions by a wide range of healthcare professionals.

I don't have any experience with it but it sounds interesting.

5. Saltwater can make your skin itch, too.
I notice it sometimes at my gym's pool. It's worse if I don't shower beforehand. I know that if one saturates their hair with fresh water before they get in the pool, it reduces the amount one's hair dries out. I suspect it may be the case for skin, too. If you can't get a hold of that Gloves in a Bottle or something like it, perhaps just a plain, ol' soak in plain water beforehand might help.

7. In our area, Environmental Health Dept is starting to shut down pools....
in public areas and apartment/condo complexes that are overchlorinated. Apparently, it can be quite the health hazard. Be careful.

8. I did when I swam regularly
I think that the problem was that it dried out my skin. If this is your problem, moisterizer might help.
