I remember with startling clarity the look on my mother's face on that winter day in 1953. She had just spent a considerable amount of time zipping and snapping and tucking, getting my brother and me ready to go outside to play in the snow. With double-mittened hands I reached up and pulled the scarf away from my mouth so she could hear me say, "I hafta pee."
Years later that scenario would repeat as little faces looked up to see that same expression on my face.
At present it's -19 outside. I bundled up in layers of appropriate clothing, slipped the cleats onto my boots, put mittens over my gloves and opened the door to head out. With one foot outside the door I stopped and just shook my head. Stepping back inside I glanced at the small mirror by the door and saw, once again, that exasperated expression looking back at me.
I'm going to be late for my appointment.

1. OH NO = What a great way to tell this type of exasperating |
|
happening we are all familiar with. EXCEPT for I don't think I've ever been in -19 degrees F, and hope to never be, this life time. You are a great writer, madamesilverspurs.
