 as if it fucking needs it! sounds good, but what were the substitutes for the duck portion? ( I only ask because chicken sounds fairly easy to duplicate )

Honestly, I have no idea. I've never had duck. It tasted like chicken-ish meat, though.

16. It tasted like duck.
Too bad we couldn't do better with the "turkey" part I think that was the year Now and Zen went under but word hadn't really got around yet. Vegetarian Plus makes something similar to the UnTurkey, but I think I'm going to try to put together the DIY UnTurkey recipe (did I post that? It's the original recipe from the lady who came up with the thing) for Giftmas this year.

some people have been vegan their entire lives...never tasted real duck, that was why I asked. I don't put things well sometimes, FLvegan...sorry about that

18. No sorry needed at all.
I wasn't remotely offended or put off. You put it just fine, and I have no problems expressing the pleasure I did have during my meat eating days (I miss swordfish SO much).

But, 'tis true. I've never eaten duck. I've eaten gator tail and armadillo, but never duck. Go figure, eh?

19. I've been meaning to tell you something for a while now...I guess this is the time to do so
Edited on Wed Dec-09-09 10:39 PM by TK421
I think I would have an easier time doing the vegetarian thing rather than the vegan thing, since I have no problem giving up red meat at all...but dairy? no way...I love my eggs and I still drink milk to this day...I have tried drinking soy milk and eating soy cheese and it all tastes like vegetable oil to me....

When you made your decision to become vegan, how long did it take for you to adjust to the diet? I guess what I'm trying to ask is how difficult was it for you to make this transition? Dude...I don't know if you remember this or not, but a couple of months ago I posted a link to a restaurant down the street from me that serves this absolutely fucking wicked french onion soup...I know you would love it, and if you were ever in the area I would treat, no problem...but they serve it with about a half-pound of swiss cheese melted on top of it x( yeah, I know! do you ever get tempted? just a bit? as far as cheese goes, and I'm not even sure how strict of a measure that is with a vegan

edited to add: I believe you and I had a brief discussion about this place, and that you viewed the menu and thought it sounded really good....if you ever find yourself around here, keep me in mind!

21. I remember the discussion, yes.
And I do recall the menu looking fantastic, so you're on!

As for myself, I was vegetarian for a short time (a number of months) before going vegan. I got used to it very quickly. My hardest transition was, as a bodybuilder, giving up the whey/egg/etc protein shakes that I could gulp down as a vegetarian. My awesome ProLab mix could be in my house no more! Dairy/cheese is definitely a no-no strict measure with being vegan, but keep in mind that going vegetarian is a huge step that has tremendous benefits. Don't think that you HAVE to go vegan. If you do, in time, great. If not, you're still doing a huge favor for yourself, the animals and the planet.

Also, there's a big difference in how easy it was for me. My motivation was very strong. I'm an animal rights activist and a liberator. I've risked my future and my freedom to save animals deemed worthless by most of the world, so it was pretty easy to "flip the switch" between vegetarian and vegan. Additionally, food isn't as much a pleasure center for me. It's fuel. I think that's why I don't get tempted. I admit, a big cheese pizza smells REALLY good. But, I'm not tempted to try it for those reasons.

So, if you feel the desire, dump the red meat, etc, and be a vegetarian. Personally, I'm not a "not good enough for me" vegan. So, we'll have our soup and I'll ask you how good that swiss cheese is on yours.
