1. I am looking for answers on this, as well.....
Kids wanted Wii "Fit"...and the store only had Wii "Sports".

I just picked up another game at a pawn shop for $15.00 called
"DeGloop" or some-such, but I don't even know if I have a
2-player system!

4. Wii Fit can be purchased separately.
Both Wii Sports and Wii Fit are fun. I am assuming you bought the base system with your Wii Fit?

13. I hate Wii Fit - they focus way too much on being balanced
Yes I'm a klutz but honestly, I just want to worry about shedding a few pounds so knock it off with the balance stuff.

I found a Wii Fit pad that is suppose to do the same thing but less of the balance stuff.

21. Wii fit sucks. If you have two controllers you have two players.
If you only have one controller (which most systems come with) let me know because we have 4 and they're gathering dust... much like the Wii itself.

Conversely, call me and we'll discuss.

2. Get the second controller and nunchuck
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 05:28 PM by MrCoffee
Don't bother with the wheel (it's not as easy to control cars with the wheel as it is with the controller, and if you want the wheel feel, just turn the controller sideways)

I would also highly recommend a recharge base/pad. The wii remote sucks the life out of batteries very very quickly.

On edit: Make sure you have a remote jacket and wrist strap for both controllers. Yes, you will launch a controller across the room.

7. nunchuck? You can get a real pair for about $10.
Start with the foam on PVC - even those hurt when you fuck up, but not nearly as much as the rattan or metal ones.

14. Playing Punch Out! with a real nunchuck would present some difficulties however.
Such as where to plug it in

19. I use the Sanyo rechareable Enelope (sp?) batteries
They hold their lives really well and will recharge like 10,000 times. Seriously, I can use the wii remote for at least 2 weeks without changing the batteries. Then, I go to the recharger and pull out the charged ones and put those in the remote and the other ones are ready to start charging. You'll never be without a charged remote.

3. get the Wii Sports Resort package. it's a great start
and it comes with the Motion Plus controllers and nun-chuks (sp)

That will get you going and from there you can add games and other accessories. We still have only the sports resort package but will be getting the Wii Fit for Festivus.

5. We don't own one, but several of my daughters' friends do. One has been in our house.
What I can tell you is that it is like crack. No matter how many accessories and games the kids have, they need more. The one that came into our house had the guitar game thing. It reminded me of a 3 yr old's toy piano. I'm an old video game head from way back, and I didn't see the entertainment value in it - just the time consumption capability.

On the plus side, it is a system with longevity of interest. The kids don't seem to set it aside after a few tries. As I see it, the problem lies with the "crack" aspect - you always need one more game or one more "thingie" to plug into it. In sharp contrast, my father got the girls each a Nintendo DS a while back. The games are also expensive. They lost interest in those pretty quickly.

Hopefully, someone with more experience using one will be able to steer you in the right direction with respect to what games and accessories to look for and which to avoid. I know it is easy to sink a lot of money into systems like that, so I hope you get some good advice to make sure the money stretches as far as possible and in the right directions.

Enjoy!

6. Get additional controllers for the number of people
who will be playing at once. Many games also require specific additional accessories, and these will be listed on the game jacket.

8. Two controllers, preferably the new Motion Plus controller...
It, with the compatible games, has much more authentic responses to your movements.

I also dig the balance board ($90).

Electronic Arts makes a good exercise program for $60. "EA Active".

Gold's Gym Cardio Gym is another favorite, as is EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis (which uses the aforementioned Motion Plus accessory)

Super Mario galaxy is "cute" looking, but well made - so well that adults love the 3D gameplay. It does raise the bar...

Wii sports, included with the Wii rocks - especially bowling. :D

I'm sure you and your family will LOVE the Wii. :)

10. Invest in a couple of the "Rabbids" games.
They are TONS of fun! You need the standard Wii remotes and nunchucks (which come with the unit), but you'll need to buy the balance board separately (which can also be used for many other games).

And I second the "ice packs" suggestion above. It takes more out of you then you might realize, but it's so much fun! I hope you enjoy it!

:hi:

20. Yes, the Rayman Rabbids games are good - also Boom Blox is a great "party" game
where you'll sit around with your friends/family for hours passing the remotes around trying to knock the blox down or play a "jenga" style game.

One of the best things about the Wii is all the great things you can do with the remote, so I definitely focus on games that use the full wii capability for throwing stuff or swinging stuff or whatever.

12. $387 with tax at Frys for a good startup..
$199 for the Wii console..Frys had a sale going on and they probably still do where it comes with three free games ( I forget the titles ). The Wii comes with the sports game that has tennis, golf, baseball, bowling.,etc.,
The console comes with one remote and one nunchuck but we haven't had the need for a second nunchuck yet...

$99 for the Wii Fit +, has the second gen. of the Fitness game and the board.

Additonal stuff you'll want to get with your first trip...

The rechargable batteries and charger that holds two wii remotes at a time ( I got the Energizer kit )They have some
that can charge 4 remotes at a time but that's a little overkill

Get a second Wii remote,

And get the comfort grip slip covers for the remotes.

So it was $387 IIRC total when I checked out with everything above...This was a month ago...

My wife went out and got the yoga mat and comfort cover for the fit board later...I've lost 6lbs in 3 weeks already :)

23. For future reference
I have a Wii system and have found Gamestop to be a great resource. I purchase used games at a discount which they allow to be returned for full refund within a certain amount of days if you don't like it and they will purchase used games you no longer use. They also have used equipment you can buy.

On their website, you will find previews of many of the games and sometimes reviews.

Creating my Mii (your avatar on the Wii) was so much fun that I found an online site to create one to use on DU.
:+
Have fun!
