4. Actually, I just got some rather nice ones (California) a couple weeks ago.
That's weird for this time of year, as most of them are small and open. These were round, firm, and compact. The girls loved them. I don't know why, but that's been one of their favorite vegetables since they were little and all three still crave them.

5. Interesting. I love Artichokes but they are usually a summer thing.
Try dipping them in a combo of Mayo, Soy Sauce and chives.

8. OOh! That sounds yummy! The girls like melted butter (with fresh garlic sauted in it).
I usually eat most of it plain with a few dips in butter. My wife and I don't get them for ourselves very often. We just get them for the girls. Even in season, $2.00 each is about as inexpensive as they get around here (PA). On rare occasions, I've seen them for $1.00 each - VERY rare occasions.

10. There are small crops of CA artichokes available this time of year.
I can get chokes from Half Moon Bay from about March to November, with a few stragglers outside of that period, but those are from smaller farms.

The commercial growers in CA produce two large crops, one in the spring and one in the fall.
