Hypothetical.
Would you take a job offer that was far and away the best job offer you'd ever had if it meant living someplace you were shanghaied-to far far from home (and hate!) and required you to sign an unbreakable contract that you have to stay for at-least a full year?

I already know the answer...I just need to know I'm thinking clearly. I'm certain I'm rescinding in writing my verbal acceptance of job offer tomorrow. (Except in those sparse seconds when I realize that's a stupid thing to do.) It's not them or the sector, I simply have no desire to establish roots in DC. (Though it beats the other option which is homelessness.)

Dammit, why can't this offer be someplace bearable? NYC or Hartford or New Haven or thereabouts.

1. FWIW
I turned down a VERY lucrative job in the Middle East back in the 80s. Three year contract, largely tax free income, all living expenses paid. No way was I going to live in that....place.

I have never regretted that decision. Not even for a second.

5. LOL.
I lived here for 6 years before. during and after college...I'm well aware of how much DC offers in comparison to my hometown outside NYC. It's why I hate it here. That and I'm a disenchanted political scientist who gave up a promising career in civil service put of college and if you're opposed to being on the government-tab...there is no place for you in DC.

Mostly, there is a woman involved and she's not here.

3. I kind of did it
Lots of people do it when they go into the military. For me, it was a contract with a trucking company to work for them for a year if they provided the training for me to get my CDL. The difference between that and your hypothetical situation was that I could break the contract as long as I paid the money back for the schooling.

6. No! DC.
I worked in Houston, TX for an eternity one year already.

I just want to go home and not be in DC.

7. "Life's too short." as most responders more or less said.
Matter of fact, money's not everything either.
