Best [Liberal] Christmas Movies EVAH!!! List Your Top 5...
Edited on Fri Dec-11-09 07:33 PM by johnfunk
Yes, George Bailey is a New Deal Liberal. But I can name five movies I like even more than It's a Wonderful Life:

#5: The Ref -- Yes, it IS a Christmas movie with Denis Leary. So bite me!
#4: Gremlins -- Yes, it IS a Christmas movie. The scene in which Ruby Deagle (played by the terrific Polly Holliday) confronts Christmas "carolers" (heh-heh) is priceless.
#3: Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang -- Yes, it IS a Christmas movie.
#2: Brazil -- Yes, it IS a Christmas movie. Deck the halls with boughs of Orwell...
#1: Bad Santa -- The film that once and for all cures It's a Wonderful Life… and it makes the ideal DVD gift for that sanctimonious Bible-thumping, Sarah-Palin-loving relative, because it contains
  • Kinky sex
  • One of the highest vulgarity-to-word ratios in cinematic history
  • Some of the most brilliantly offensive, pointed dialogue in the history of black comedy on celluloid
  • A plot that serves up an irony-charged tale of redemption and doing something meaningful in the season of giving
So waht're you waitin' for, Sparky? Name your top five -- or top one -- or top whatever -- holiday movies!

3. There's that part in Gremlins where the girlfriend describes her father dying on Christmas...
by dressing up in a Santa suit and getting stuck in the chimney. The family thinks he's abandoned them, until they discover his corpse several days later. It's a horrible story and it makes you feel so sorry for the character.

Then in Gremlins 2, she starts telling a similar horrible story about being molested on President's Day by a guy in an Abe Lincoln costume, and you realize she's messed in the head and making all this up, including the Santa stuff in the first movie, in order to get attention and sympathy. There's a great "WTF" look on the other characters as they realize the same thing. Only worthwhile scene in the sequel.

6. Excellent choices! I'm going to add
Edward Scissorhands mainly because I saw the movie right before Christmas AND because it has some beautiful snowy scenes which are Christmasy.
I LOVE Kiss, Kiss, Bang Bang and Gremlins.
