3. As a former union card carrying pipeliner...
This is a pipe wrench. If you use it on anything else, it is being misused. Never for nuts and bolts. The way the jaws work it grabs one direction, slides back the other so you don't lose contact with the pipe in question. Always choose the right tool for the job.

5. I heard about Stilsons, crescents, yada yada...
Thanks for the info.

My dad was a union card carrying pipefitter at one of the stinkin' oil refineries.

He also went to night school on the GI Bill and became an attorney. Interesting combo. :D

10. I think I've gotten whupped for using one as a crescent wrench instead.
I remember as a kid rounding off a couple of bolt holds with one of those. :)

6. A hammer.
When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Curiously, the converse is also true.

12. Tire checker
My supply lines are copper. My drain/waste/vent lines are PVC. I have no use for that device in a plumbing capacity, but you can use it to compare the air pressure in your tires--just whack the side of each tire lightly. If they all sound the same, the tires are fairly evenly inflated.
