My oldest brother had to get his dog euthanized today.
Today wasn't a good day for many reasons, but this topped it off. My brother was the best dog dad I've ever known, and I'm very good with dogs.

1. That's always tough, especially when you love dogs that much
My condolences.

2. That dog was the best friend my brother ever had. It was the first
dog he had ever raised, and the dog kept him sane through a very tough marriage. My brother socialized him, taught him to heel off-leash, took him to the beach to swim and chase Frisbees, encouraged other dog friends to visit, and slept with him on the floor and even in the front yard during his decline.

4. Unfortunately it's part of the package when we choose to add animals to our families.
Knowing when it's the best decision for the pet, even though it hurts us mightily, is something we sometimes need to face.

I hope your brother can find peace in the understanding that his dog had an excellent life and left him with great memories.

5. Yes, it always is,
but it's hurting him badly at this point.

3. It always saddens one
to realize how short the time our fur kids have with us truly is.
Best wishes to him

6. You're right, man.
It's far too short, and it seems unfair. Vic raised this dog very consistently--better than many people raise their kids.
