What's the best gift you've ever received? |
|
I don't mean things like your spouse or kids or the kidney your sister your gave you. Those are great gifts but kind of in another league. But what's the best gift, the one you remember most, that you ever got? Kind of like Ralphie and the Red Ryder BB Gun - that kind of gift.
For me, I think the gift that got me most excited and thrilled was the bike I got the year I was 7. I was the youngest of 6 kids so I had hand-me-down everything and could look forward to a long life of riding other people's outgrown bikes (I was already on my second or third hand-me-down bike).
On Christmas morning that year (1968), I found a brand, spanking new, bright purple bike with a banana seat and high handlebars parked in front of the tree with my name on it. :bounce:
Of course, I lived in Vermont so they only place I could ride it before spring was in the garage. :P

I know you want us to mention gifts, but I really liked playing Santa one year when my Dad was on TDY (worked abroad). My mother thought my older sister and I were old enough to help her put out all the gifts, in the wee hours of the morning, for our two younger sisters. It's a great memory... and was such a thrill to be able to stay up late on Christmas Eve! :D

4. An all-expense paid trip to Greensboro NC, and a forklift |
|
Home Depot has a school for people selling windows, doors and moulding called Millwork 101. One year, I got sent to Millwork 101 on my birthday. When I got back, they took me out behind the building and showed me the brand new forklift--FIVE hours on it!--they'd received just the day before. Since my old one was wore the fuck out, I was happy.

5. does my wedding count? |
|
my husband and i pitched in a bit, but my dad picked up the majority of the tab. it wasn't a lavish wedding by any means, but my dad still spent a fair amount on it.
it was the single most perfect and wonderful day of my life and i will always be grateful that my father was so generous to give me such a day.
second to that would be my wedding ring, which is an incredibly an beautiful piece of jewelry and belonged to my great-grandmother.

my father randomly gave me a white 10-speed Peugeot. I was in 6th grade and he picked me up after school and there in the back of his truck was this beautiful object.
