Need help with X-mas gift. I'm SERIES!!!
I am looking for a heavy sweater like the ones in the pix below. The "Starsky" sweater which is similar to that worn by Marilyn in the Barris photoshoot. Big, thick and long. Buttons or not. But here is the really important twist: it's gotta not be wool. Ms. Flake is allergic to animal hair. Cotton would be sweet.

So I have been searching online and in some stores but no luck at all. I can not knit. This is one of those gift ideas that I have back-shelved for years because I can only find similar onse in wool. A guy is having them reproduced, but in wool dammit.

Any color or pattern. Does not have to be white/cream. Any leads to something similar in cotton or even acrylic would be greatly appreciated.

1. I wish they still manufactured sweaters like that...
I'm not hopeful you'll find one in the stores (or online). There are LOTS of knitting patterns for them... which usually means it's the only way to get one. Sorry.

Here are some nice cotton sweaters though:

2. A few years ago, I contacted a woman about a pillow that I wanted custom-made.
Here's her website: http://www.customsweaters.com/

She did a great job on my pillow, and I'm almost certain she could make that sweater for you, in exactly the size, materials and colors you are looking for. There's probably no way she could have it done by Christmas, but it can't hurt to ask her. If you email her, she'll get back to you pretty quick. Good luck.

17. Pumpkins on your porch still?? You *are* behind schedule!
:D

I have a coupla more things to get, + stocking stuffers, but the bulk of the shopping is done. I've had my tree up for a month now, I ordered a new one and when it got here mid-November, instead of putting it away for two weeks I just put it up. It looks nice. You'd better get with the program, hon! :hi:

18. yeah, we will probably get the tree tomorrow - I love real trees
we don't usually get a tree until about 2 weeks before - otherwise it feels too early. Parents always put it up the week of Christmas, so I always feel like I'm a little early!

13. Look here!
I just did a really obvious search. It doesn't say if they are wool or not, and according to the ordering page it's too late to order for Christmas but...

15. Yeah, the Starsky sweater guy.
He has a Starsky Torino and stared having replica sweaters made. They were made of wool from New Zealand. Anyways, while perfect they are wool. :-(

Very nice for those without allerdies. The new one should be fab. Thanks for looking!

8. Unfortunately we are in north LA county.
The vintage shops are in the valleys to the south. I used to haunt quite a few shops back in the day.

5. Try modifying your search...
Use "sweater jacket" or "sweater coat". Here's one of the results I got with "sweater coat":

Also, check out the sweaters at Overstock.com.

Good luck! There's not a lot of heavy, chunky sweaters out there right now in general. Have you tried EBay?
