Some stupid ideas never die: More idiotic "marketing." |
|
Af few years ago, some blockhead at Pentax decided it would be a nifty idea to claim that their cameras were "The Official Digital Camera of the Internet."
Uh-huh. Yeah, right. Like "the internet" could have an "official" anything. Fortunately that claim didn't last too long, because apparently someone at Pentax was embarrassed that the company was making such a fool of itself.
But did other marketing departments / ad agencies learn anything from that debacle? Noooooo...
Now, Bridgestone is advertising its Blizzak tires as being "The Official Tire of Winter."
Dudes, Winter is a season, in case you didn't know. It can't have an "official" anything.
What's even more insulting than the fact that someone actually got paid to come up with such a moronic concept (and I find it personally offensive because I do marketing for a living and would never try to sell such lazy, moronic crap to my customers) is the fact that they think people are dumb enough to believe it.
Arrgh.

1. They took a cue from Bush and his "War On Terror." |
|
Worked pretty good for him. Hell, he sold a war! Cameras and tires should be a smashing hit using the same technique.

As long as people try to sell things, there will be crazy marketing ideas...
Sorry, sweetie!
And you know that when you notice their marketing, even though it annoys you, they have succeeded...

3. How have you been Peggy? |
|
I haven't seen you around here as much as I used to. I did see the thread about your newly published poem, though. Congrats!

Well, the reason you haven't seen me as much is probably because I'm not here as much...
I think you and I often post at opposite hours too...
I am well, thanks!
I am STILL in disbelief about my poem, lol!
:hi:
Looks like your life is going along pretty well...

5. But that's my point: This stupidity does NOT succeed. People are not as dumb as |
|
those "marketers" think they are.

6. I don't have as much faith in human intelligence as you do Redstone |
|
I think there are plenty of people out there who will be impressed by the Official Tire of Winter and will want those and only those tires. Which is depressing as hell, really.

7. I've never heard one of those types of marketing concepts that wasn't intentionally ironic |
|
Doesn't make them any more clever, but I never had the sense that the marketers thought that people would actually believe that "winter" or "the internet" had endorsed the product.
