Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer question (1964)

In the end when Santa is loading up his sleigh there are blocks of the ABCs behind him with the letters M and N which have arrows on them.

Why were those there since there seemed to be no children? Where they file drawers with children's names or something?
