This had been in the works for almost a week, and at the time she seemed really excited and flattered to be asked. Yesterday morning, she was contrite and apologetic and all that and even asked how she could make it up to me...
So I wrote back and said, well, let's do something this weekend. That was Tuesday morning. It's Wednesday night now, so I'm about ready to give up on the whole thing.

Without going into detail, sometimes family pressures can derail a relationship.
There is one time in particular, when I was very young and easily intimidated, when I wish I had told my mother to forget about my presence at a certain relatively unimportant family event, because the young man took my cancellation of our date as a rejection and never spoke to me again.

One time, back in the day, Mr. Hottie Famous Poet asked my mom out.
She was SO FLUSTERED she said "I have to take care of my sister."
Like, :wtf: My mom's sister was a year younger than she was, and perfectly capable of taking care of herself.
He never asked her out again. :(
