Poll question: I loathe Pizza.
Edited on Thu Dec-17-09 03:21 PM by Call Me Wesley
Pizza pie is composed of three parts. First, there is a base, which is usually a biscuit or a yeast dough. This is covered with ketchup, sprinkled with oregano or any other herb you think sounds Italian, like basil (nah, scratch that, that's British!) mastroianni, and berlusconi and then topped with nippy cheese and everything else you like to add, like whatever.

It is mostly eaten hot, but it can be enjoyed cold for breakfast, when the cheese is really hard. Dipping in hot milk might help.

1. You should go with what pizza was in the beginning then:
focaccia bread with tomato sliced stuck to it :9

2. Now, that is nice!
Until someone decided to put cheese on it ...

There's a Spanish variety, although not baked: A slice of bread, with a few drops of olive oil and some sliced tomato on it. Yumm!

3. Maybe that's what I'm thinking of,
but I do recall it being focaccia bread. Which isn't as easy to make as it seems. I lot of extra work forming it, but it does come out well :)

Maybe you should try a vegan pizza, like this one: Potato Sage Pizza

4. Focaccio bread is slightly different.
I found the Spanish recipe: http://whatscookingamerica.net/Appetizers/SpanishTomatoToast.htm It's a Catalan specialty.

Pizza with taters? What's next? Broccoli? As I said, just add anything you like! ;)

5. Pizza is a "portable" food.
So, yes, even broccoli can go on it ;)

I have a recipe around here somewhere for blending broccoli and mashed potatoes. You end up with green mashed potatoes, but it's still yummy :9

But she's still packing things up, including her computer, so we had to keep it short. We had a longer chat last night :)

Thank goodness for txting, though! :D

22. As far as seeing her in the physical,
that's going to depend on me getting employed again and being able to save up enough to not only visit there again, but move her and her pets here. That and get the Visa application going to do all that.

For everything else, we rely on skype and email a lot :)

Although I can't actually start the paperwork until I'm employed. Immigration kind of prefers you have money coming in regularly before they allow you to bring in someone else ;)

I have an immigration lawyer, same one I used with my first wife, so I know a bit about the process here. Mostly, it's in the form of waiting...

I mean, make a Google image search for Pizza and tell me what it looks like ... Ewwwwww ...

Funny enough, 'Pizza' is actually a slang here for that what you described.

8. Pizza may be my favorite food.
Where do you live, cause you should come to New York City, where Pizza was born and have some amazing coal oven pie. It's heaven.
The best is at Grimaldi's, Totono's and Lombardi's.

12. So what pizza do you eat, that makes you loathe it?
Neopolitan? The room temp type from a bakery?
Hating pizza is like hating chocolate. I don't get it.

14. My wife makes great pizza.
And no, no room temp pizza ever. Not sure if I would compare it to chocolate (you don't want me to tart another poll, since I rarely at chocolate.)

I just never got the hang of it. I had people left and right ordering pizza while I still searched the menu for something else.

Don't hate me, because I don't really like it. ;)

I Scream For Pizza
Gelato Shop | Rome, Italy

(While working at a gelato shop in Rome, a tourist approaches me.)

Customer: “Excuse me, miss! I’d like a pizza!”

Me: “We don’t sell pizza here. This is a gelato shop.”

Customer: “What are you talking about? This is Italy! Don’t you have pizza in Italy?”

Me: “Yes, we have pizza in Italy, but this is not a pizzeria, so we don’t sell pizza. There are pizzerias, though, if you look.”

Customer: “So this is Italy?”

Me: “Correct.”

Customer: “And this is a restaurant.”

Me: “Sort of, though we only sell the ice cream.”

Customer: “But this is ITALY.”

(After a few minutes of getting nowhere, my coworker attempts to help.)

Coworker: *jokingly* “Ma’am, if you want pizza, I can get you some for 100 euros.”

(100 euros is about $150 USD. Without hesitation, the customer pulls out two 50s and hands them to my coworker.)

Co-worker: *hands the tourist the money back* “It’s okay, ma’am. Let me direct you to a nearby pizzeria…”

18. Nice find!
Unfortunately, I'm sure there are places where you can get a $150 pizza. Just the usual thing, and then someone comes and grates a micro-gram of white truffles over it. They did the same with normal Pasta. $5 usually, but if the guy with the truffle grating machine comes ... $95.

23. I remember this cool show they had on IFC, called
Dinner for Five with Jon Favreau, and he talked about the guy coming up with the truffle slicer. He didn't know the prices and basically let the guy give him a few slices (four, I think.) He found out later it was $4 a slice! ;)

25. Yeah, it's the mushroom you have to pay for.
Since my family had famous deli stores, I've seen and smelled a lot of truffles. You really can live without them. It's like asking for extra gold-leaf in your champagne. :)

But then, it's not really hard to find mushrooms around here. Of course, we're not Hobbits, so after day #three of eating mushrooms, the complaints are starting to come in.

"Can I have a pizza instead?"

33. I've grown some outside,
but it was pretty much a failure. I think some Japanese mushrooms like shitake or oyster mushrooms which you can grow in a basement are the best and easiest to grow. And then you can all waste them on pizza, embalmed by cheese ... :P

Heidi hates anchovies, but if we have Pizza, a full can of anchovies is on my part. Anchovies, they make pizza. ;)

Liver and onions? Oh my. Twenty years ago I helped a professional cook made it. It was ... good ... good ... good! We were cramped in a little private kitchen, around a small wooden table, but this was exquisite.
