The Hollies were a pleasant, competent second stringer, but their influence on the development of rock music was minimal. They have no business being inducted when genuinely influential acts such as Joy Division, The Cure, The Stranglers, Wire, and The Replacements haven't even been considered.

The wire story I saw said they started as an art rock band in 1969 under Peter Gabriel but after Gabriel left in 75'(post Lambs)
and Collins moved to the front they drifted towards pop rock.
