1. I read MAD magazine throughout my childhood.

Spy vs. Spy always fascinated me because they were perfectly symmetrical in their stupidity. It was a good way to learn about the Cold War.

3. The whole idea of Spy v. Spy was that, you have to come up with

a way to get the other guy, before he gets you. Preferably using his own means which were meant for you.
You find out that he intends to blow you up with a bomb, so you switch all his fuse material to super fast burn.
Voila. Foisted on his own petard.
He digs a large pit, and attempts to lure you into it. However, he falls in himself, impaling on some spikes at the bottom because you have greased his shoes, and he slips.
Etc.
PS Of course it's stupid, that's why it's funny.
