What entire TV series do you WANT to own on DVD? My picks:
Reasonable Doubts (with Marle Matlin).

Hec Ramsey (eith Richard Boone).

Homicide: Life on the Streets.

Anyone know where I can find any of those, I'd sure appreciate pointers...

2. I still need Fawlty Towers, French and Saunders and season 3 of The Upright Citizens Brigade.
Other than that, I got most of what I want, as there aren't many shows I'm that into, at least to the point of buying them.

Homicide was a great show, btw.

*Biker's Old Lady*

I LOVE the "Gilmore Girls"! I watch it every night on ABC Family, and even Biker has been hooked! He's VERY well read, and gets a kick from the literary references.

63. My daughter has the whole series on DVD
I was laid up after minor surgery and watched the first six seasons over the course of about three days. Sounds like the sort of thing that Lorelei and Rory would have done!

I agree about the literary and pop culture references. The series was really well-written.

Welcome to DU, Biker!

the pacing of GG (and how smart it is) always reminds me of old Capra movies- very witty and fast dialogue. West Wing also had this quality (not often seen anymore) and I used to rewind and replay West Wings so that I could catch the quick repartee!

I still haven't seen the early black-and-white episodes but I've seen all the color ones on PBS. It's been a long time an I'd like to sit down and watch the entire series again. I don't think any American show has achieved that level of quality from beginning to end.

And a bit of a warning: I bought all the seasons individually, only to find out that the entire 6 season boxed set also includes the two MacGyver movies for TV that were made. So if you buy the series set, you get the bonuses.

Upstairs, Downstairs
Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister
The Prisoner
Tenko
Life on Mars (British version)
The Forsyte Saga (original 1960s version)
Cracker

When I get a little more money, I want to buy the entire I, Claudius, which is currently available from Amazon UK for about $26 US.

It's been worth it to me to buy a region-free DVD player, because Amazon UK sells anything that's more than a couple years old for really, really low prices, on top of which they don't charge VAT to U.S. purchasers, and the shipping is only about $8.

58. 1. Get a region-free player for about $20 more than a comparable regular player
(order online).

2. Look up the Amazon UK website.

3. Check out the prices for older British TV series.

4. Swoon.

(Note: You can play European DVDs on a region-free player, but there is no way to play European VHS tapes.)

59. I've seen the new one.
It was....meh. However, I hated series 7 and 8 at first too and now I thoroughly enjoy both (Tikka To Ride in series 7 is one of their best episodes, imo), so I'm planning on watching the new one at least a couple more times to see if it grows on me. There were some parts that were really funny, so its worth a second look.

I think Chris Barrie was really the heart of the show, the one that all the others played off of. Plus, I tend to like the bastards in these shows, like Rik from the Young Ones. :)

29. Have you been to
tvshowsondvd.com? Once you register, you pick all the shows you want on DVD, and as word comes out about their status, you can keep up with it. I probably have about 100 shows I want on DVD, but since I registered a very long time ago, a great many of them have come out, including the series I wanted the most: the Man from UNCLE.

Also, you might also want to make note that if you have a region-free DVD player, you can buy DVDs from other regions, which I do with some of the British shows that aren't available in Region 1 (US and Canada). An instance of the difference: A&E put out the region 1 DVD set of the British show, The Champions about 6 years ago, at a cost of $60. As only 15 (out of 30) episodes had played on US TV, that's how many of the episodes were on the DVD set, and the second 1/2 were never issued.

The Amazon UK site, OTOH, had the British DVD special covering all 30 episodes, as well as a short documentary on the show including a reunion with the actors, a 2 hr special of two eps together, and other extras. I was able to get that set for $60 US. Since then, that same DVD special edition is now at 30 quid, approx. $50 US.

There are other ways to see shows you might want to catch--there is a new station (different affiliates in different cities) called Retro TV, and I catch shows like Alias Smith and Jones, It Takes A Thief, and Black Sheep Squadron on there and record them with TIVO. You might also try hulu.com, or tv.blinkx.com or a torrent site which might have some things. I got Vengeance Unlimited and Fantastic Journey from other fans, neither which is likely to show up on DVD anytime soon.

The only shows I would like that I haven't found through these methods are Covington Cross, The Magician, and When Things Were Rotten.
