The University of Kentucky becomes first college basketball team....
to win 2000 games. They began the season only 4 games ahead of North Carolina, who is expected to win their 2000th game early next year. Kentucky had seen their comfortable lead over the Tarheels shrink by 30 games over the last two years, under former coach Billy Clyde Gillispie. They began the season only 4 games ahead of North Carolina and had to play them at home. They beat the Tarheels in a fairly close game on their way to their present 12-game winning streak and a number 3 ranking in the country, only behind Kansas and Texas...for the time being. :-)

3. We believe in giving a person a second chance..
The new KY coach was paid a large amount of money to take over the job at this basketball-crazy school, with their crazy fanatics, of which I confess to being one. The new coach is not a disciplinarian and enjoys the game very much and wants his players to enjoy the game also. However, he is a great motivational coach and gets the very best out of the young men he coaches. He had a couple of players at UMass and Memphis that did not strictly adhere to the rules. One was Marcus Camby at UMass and the other was super star guard at Memphis, whose name presently escapes me, but neither said the coach had anything to do with their transgressions. But both schools were forced to vacate their victories by the NCAA. In the latter case, Memphis had to give back 38 wins they got in one season!

The University and the fans are not blind to the past. We hope for the best for Coach Calipari. He is doing an excellent job at present. The team and the fans are once again enjoying the game of basketball. They are working their way back to the top and they want to do it in an ethical and enjoyable manner. No price can be put on the value of lifting the spirits of the people of Kentucky. It is almost therapeutic for the whole nation. :-)

Isn't this the guy Knight said should be run out of basketball?

A cheat is a cheat is a cheat.

6. Knight said a lot of crap.
This is the same guy that tried to choke a player and threw a chair across the floor that could have seriously injured someone. I don't think he should be the one talking. Besides, he lied. He said Calipari put two programs on "probation". That is not true. A player at Memphis had someone else take his SAT for him. The Coach did not know about that. The player at UMass had taken gifts of small amounts of money from someone, and the coach was not part of that. It could be argued that maybe he should have known but that is another argument. The coach was not found guilty of anything. Knight is still hurting just a little from the loss UK hung on Indiana a week or so ago.

8. but Knight never ever cheated
Clean program that managed to graduate most of its players.

Knight had anger issues, that is true but he wasn't a cheat.

I don't really give two shits about sports but I hate cheaters. Calipari should be barred from the NCAA. If they really had any integrity they would banish a coach the same way they banish (effectively) players for violations.
