5. Klink/ Werner Kemperer Was Jewish

I read an old interview with the actor who played Klink, Werner Kemperer. He was Jewish, and was floored when he first heard that someone had the gall to want to do a comedy about a German prison camp. All and all, I think the show worked. The Germans really had their Schultzs and Klinks running the POW camps, because they didn't want to waste good soldiers.

Although many American and British prisoners experienced great hardships at times (especially towards the end when Germany was faling apart), most survived the war. In comparison, most western prisoners held in Japanese prison camps died a horrible death. The survivors of Japanese camps said that if they had known what laid in store for them, they never would have surrendered, but would have charged the Japanese even if they had no ammo left.
