Poll question: What is this called?

Poor Orchid just got spayed last Wednesday, and today she decided to take the stitches out by herself. Now she's got to wear this thing for another week. The vet's receptionist said that now, she really looks like a flower.

1. I call it an Elizabethan collar.
Though I must say that I've never had a dog (or cat) that was willing to submit to wearing one more than a few minutes. Best of luck getting Orchid to wear hers for a week!

She's a pretty girl, by the way.

:hi:

26. Elizabethan collar is what I've heard it called
Our first Bichon (RIP) had to wear one for a few days after his neutering. I felt sorriest for him when he tried to go up stairs, as the lower part of the collar would hit the next tread. It was like watching a dog version of Homer Simpson. Step, bang, "doh!" Repeat for each step.

Just think....If we boys had been more "flexible" in our youth, the church would have had US wearing those!

22. I have a friend who rescues pit bulls, Baldguy.
She's introduced me to the breed. They can be very very sweet, affectionate, full of energy and entirely devoted to their masters. As a breed, they have been badly abused and badly maligned.
Of course, all dogs need to be handled with care and well cared for, and things can go wrong with any breed. Orchid looks like a sweetie.

5. Kitty number 1 wore one for 3 weeks
The poor cat could barely get to the food bowl. The collar got dirty quickly. To the cat it was certainly the Cone of Shame.

9. There is a soft, pliable version of it now
My cat came home with one on. It's blue plastic and it's more like a fabric. It still blocks them from licking or biting in the affected area but it's much less awkward. The tag on this one says "Butler Animal Health Supply" but nothing else.

13. We have one of these around here somewhere..
but neither dog has ever been forced to wear it more than a couple of days. That is about the length of their tolerance of the nuisance of it. After that, it becomes too big of a pain to get it on them.

Okay, let's be honest. I can't even stand to wear a turtleneck sweater so I don't have the heart to force this collar on the dog. I am the push over of the pack. ;)

My friends rottie decided a giant tube sock made a good meal until he ended up needing surgery for the obstruction, so he got unicorn stickers for his cone of shame. Orchid needs pretty pretty fairy stickers on her cone!!

20. Aww... poor baby! I call it the "idiot helmet"
One of my cats had to wear one of those when the other cat scratched his eye. He was SO pathetic. He usually hangs out with my son, but he wouldn't leave my side while he had that on. It was like he was constantly rubbing in my face how pathetic and sad he was. The funniest part was my dog... (a Staffordshire Terrier) was in TOTAL freak-out/panic mode, crying and thinking that the thing was trying to hurt the cat.

I think the cat was trying to negotiate with the dog to help him remove the idiot helmet and plan a coup d'etat.

28. Protection???? It made my dogs paralyzed. Wouldn't budge with it on.
Didn't matter that they weren't supposed to gnaw on the staples after the surgery, it made them a statue. I didn't keep them on for long. I just had to keep my eyes really open so they wouldn't get gnaw happy on their staples. And that was HARD. They obviously want to lick their wounds, but it depressed mine.

It does look in that second picture like destroying the memory card in your camera has usurped stitch removal as her #1 priority.
