Did J.J. Abrams inadvertently Kill off All the Vulcan's?
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 01:24 AM by AsahinaKimi

It has occurred to me while watching an episode of the original Star Trek, "Amok Time", that someone had mentioned that during the 7 year sexual cycle, Male Vulcans must return to the planet to mate, or die trying. (Like Salmon swimming upstream) Pon Farr.

Since The planet of Vulcan was destroyed in the last movie, J.J. Abrams has inadvertently
made it possible so NO VULCAN can return to Vulcan to mate. McCoy in all his medical wisdom could not help Spock, during the original Star Trek episode, so the Enterprise was forced to return to Vulcan so as to save Spock.

In changing the history time line of the original Star Trek, J.J. Abrams has sentenced all male Vulcans to death. Perhaps in the next movie or so, they will find a way to save Vulcan by changing things back.

1. TNG era shows have established that Vulcans didnt actually need to go back to the home planet
to take care of the Pon Far.

In Voyager Tuvok was going through Pon Far and the Doctor just made up a holodeck version of his wife and it worked.

I think in Enterprise the same thing happened with Tpol. I know at least the mirror universe Tpol just had sex with Trip to take care of her Pon Far.

Apparently in Enterprise female Vulcans go through Pon Far.

2. True however
In the Kirk and Spock era, there were no holo decks. What will they do then?

3. Were there females among the survivors?
I think the implication is that it just takes a matched pair of vulcans, not so much the planet itself.

4. Star Trek 3 Spock went through Pon Far on the Genesis Planet.
I think they prefer to go back to the homeworld but since its blowed up then Vulcans will have to make do with what they got.

On another Voyager episode that other Vulcan did his ritual combat for Pon Far on whatever planet they were currently on for that episode.
