International Soundex Reunion Registry - a free service to reunite adoptees & birth family
http://www.isrr.net/

It only works when people on both sides register so if you or someone you know wants to find biological next of kin check this out or pass it on.

http://www.isrr.net/faq.shtml

What is a Reunion Registry?
A system for matching persons who desire contact with their next-of-kin by birth.

Who Can Register at ISRR?
1. Any child/adoptee who is 18 years of age or older.
2. Birth parents, siblings and birth relatives.
3. Adoptive parents of adoptees who are still under the age of 18.

How Does It Work?
When a registration is received the information is computerized. If data matches and the ISRR registrar determines a relationship exists, both parties will be notified immediately.

How Is The Registry Funded?
ISRR is a non-profit, tax exempt corporation funded entirely by your donations.

How Much Does It Cost?
There is no fee for this service. All contributions are tax deductible. The generosity of each registrant will enable this registry to provide for the reunions of tomorrow.

Adoption.about.com has some other ways of searching here: http://adoption.about.com/od/searching/Searching_How_to_Search_Search_Angels.htm

Alabama, Alaska, Kansas, Maine, New Hampshire, and Oregon have open adoption records where adoptees over 18 only need to file a petition to get their info - http://adoption.about.com/od/howtosearch/f/states_open_adoption_records.htm

Some states have Adoption Registries of their own - go here to find directions to look up if the state where the birth took place has one: http://adoption.about.com/od/howtosearch/f/adoption_registry.htm

I am an adult adoptee who has been blessed with two families who love me. I feel guilty to have that when my older adopted sib's reunion did not go well :( I hope (and pray for those who are OK with prayer) those who wish to be find their genetic relatives do so and have only wonderful experiences.
