Help! Can I stuff the turkey tonight if I am not putting it in until tomorrow
morning? (celebrating Christmas on the 24th because the ex has the kids Christmas this year). We are eating earlier than usual and I don't want to wake up at fecking 5 AM if I can avoid it.

Thanks much,

mcctatas

1. I've heard this is not a good idea -- you should put the stuffing in immediately before cooking.

3. You can make your stuffing a couple of days in advance
and then stuff the turkey right before you put it in the oven. I don't think it's a good to stuff the turkey before you're ready to cook it.

4. No, don't.
Even though you will rinse the bird's cavity it is not the best storage container.

Definitely make it tonight and refrigerate it until you are ready to roast the turkey. The flavors of all of your ingredients will meld together overnight and be even more yummy. Have a great time!

6. reinforcing what others have said - NO!
not a good idea unless you are hoping for food poisoning.

Don't stuff the turkey at all. It will cook faster. Put the stuffing in a casserole dish and bake alongside the bird.

7. Sorry, no. :^( The bactaeria that builds up in the stuffing won't cook out and you could
get soooo sick!

You can do what I do, though, which is to make the stuffing and cover the bowl with foil and leave it in the fridge overnight. That way all you have to do come morning is stuff the bird and pop it in the oven.

Vanishes, misses out on the Great Christmas Flamewar of 2009, but she wants us to stuff her turkey...

12. Do not stuff until ready to cook the bird
If you do advance preparation of the stuffing ingredients, I wouldn't add eggs until you are ready to stuff.

You must also remove the stuffing completely from the bird after it comes out of the oven. You can let the bird cool a few minutes first.

13. I wouldn't stuff the turkey until two hours before the bird is done
The bacteria in the turkey will seep into the stuffing, not getting hot enough to kill them. You and/or your loved ones risk getting sick from stuffing put in the bird raw.

My mom made that mistake; she didn't know any better. I got sick from the stuffing every time--the stuffing trots.
