How can anybody possibly not love Dolly Parton? She sings like
an angel, has written many of the best songs ever written, and (you may not know this) is a very talented instrumetalist. (Though how she plays the guitar and banjo with those fingernails is still a mystery to me, even given that I've seen her do it).

And she's funny, too.

Thank you for being Dolly, Dolly.

4. Although some may assume that her stage persona is who she is,
I've always found her to be a very genuine and down to earth person. Something exceedingly rare in the entertainment business.

5. a really kind person too
i am pretty tone deaf and don't hear the music but i know that she has really gone out of her way to create jobs for her family, etc. -- we all laughed at "dollywood" (in sevierville) but it has been a blessing for many people

she really does try to share the wealth and make sure that when she's winning, every body at the table is winning

i honestly can't remember ever hearing a bad word said aga. her, she just seems like a remarkable person

10. She was a total delight in "9 To 5."
When she chewed out Dabney Coleman, saying she'd shoot his nuts off, (not in those words,) I laughed my head off.

not so early in her career. Beautiful voice, timeless persona. What's not to like? And yo, Redstone. Thinking of you.

16. Hey, sweets. Hope all is well with you. As for me,
the news could be better, but it's not:

I'll handle it, though. That's what I do.

My very best wishes for you and yours for the holidays; you're one of the special ones in my heart.

She is so COOOOL
She was doing concerts like even before -- the Dolly Parton & Burt Reynolds days? (So long ago I can't even remember what they were doing) and she came to my town and did a show - Know what we saw and heard? Dolly Parton, her nylon string guitar, and a tall stool for her to stand on.

And she just had me in tears.

23. I didn't appreciate her until they sang "9-to-5" on American Idol
The contestants absolutely butchered the song. A friend explained to me that that's not an easy song to sing. You have to have a lot of vocal control to do it right and Dolly makes it look easy.

She's pretty much universally adored here. She also started a program that sends every child in Sevier County a free book every month for their first five years.

34. I love Dolly.
She's the real deal. One of the funniest things I heard was her response to someone who asked her if she was offended by the Dumb Blonde jokes. She said, "No, 'cause I'm not dumb and I'm not blonde"!

A friend of mine who knows her personally says you'd never recognize her if you met her out on the street, that she looks nothing like her public self IRL.
