Tonight I became a hypocrite, with a little help from loved ones.
Goobie showed up with her friend E, a bottle of lighter fluid and a box of matches. "We're doing it, Mom!" she called from the kitchen. We gathered up momentos, some mine and some hers, and took them out to the driveway. "My mother says not to blow on the fire," E said. "Why?" asked Kira. "I don't know... apparently she has some experience with ritual burning," E said.

Ritual. Burning. Freaking barbaric and yet so delightful. The girls danced around the fire and I joined them until I couldn't dance any more. As the flames died we kicked snow onto the pile until there was no sign of our crime aside from the circle of footprints we'd made. "When the fire was high, this was the height of our love. Now there is nothing but a clean space upon which to build something new," I said, expecting them to laugh. They didn't. I paused and took a deep breath of the frigid winter air. Relief. I felt relief. I feel relief.

In case anybody thinks I'm so dumb as to miss the hypocrisy, go fuck yourself. Everybody needs closure and I just got me some. Nothing burned to ashes can ever be resurrected, not under any circumstances.

Now, some piano.

1. My dear crim son...
Hypocrisy?

I don't get it...

How were you a hypocrite? Sounds to me as though you helped them, and yourself, do a little ritual cleansing.

Very appropriate for the end of the year, methinks.

5. Oh, it's because I was accused of being likely to "destroy"
something of his once the relationship ended. I was insulted but, oh no, I just DID and it feels good.

3. Feel your pain babe...
I just threw everything in the trash.

Couldn't be bothered with the burning.

I did keep the cool Christmas present she sent me...

4. Aww, cwydro.
I'm sorry.

I'm not actually feeling any pain unless it's the pain of realizing I've wasted three precious years on an insane person. I'm even a little sad that I'm not sad... I let it go on WAY too long as my dear friends know.

And I WILL come to the keys some day and share a plate of onion rings!

12. Yeah, I don't see the hypocrisy either, crim son.
Sounds like you did just the thing you needed to put it all behind you. And you're right. once it's burned, it cannot be resurrected. Fire cleanses and purifies.

Do you feel cleansed and purified?... ;-)

I'm happy for you for getting your closure...

Just when one thinks
that time and absence
has killed them.
We find their train
purchased
a round trip ticket.

It's those little things
left behind from days of roses
in a corner
a piece of paper
or a box.

Like thieves
they hide and watch us
from behind a door.
They have us
at their mercy
like dead leaves.

Dragged by the wind hither and yon,
as they smile at us, sadly, and
they make us
cry when
no one can see.

15. no hypocrisy
from the ashes rise the phoenix

letting go of things makes us stronger, lightening the load makes us more adaptable, burning as ritual is a good ritual.
