Check out my awesomeness.
http://www.quitmeter.org/main/page/Tobin

I've actually saved more money than the meter says. When I quit smoking, cigarettes were $4.00 a pack here in Ohio. Shortly after that they went up to about $4.50 then $4.95 and now they are $5.02 a pack for the brand I smoked.

I am so glad I quit. I rarely think about smoking now and the cravings are long gone.

3. You have saved enough for a decent used vehicle.
Really puts the expense of smoking in perspective, not even including the hidden health care costs that are incurred later in life from smoking.

Keep up the good work.

5. Yep, the cost was the initial impetus
that got me to lay the smokes down. Then I started to noticed how much better I felt, how my senses returned to their normal functioning level, how my phlegm problem went away, how I learned that by quitting smoking when I did I've added at least 5 years to my life, and I felt elated. I'm putting that money into a retirement account now.

10. I quit cold turkey just shy of 25 years ago.
I was at least a 2-pack/day smoker, Camel unfiltered. In addition to that, I smoked clove cigarettes, which back then were hand rolled, no filter, and burned for a good 25 minutes each. I think Camels were about $1.25/pack (tops) and a 10-pack of Djarum ran about $2.25. That was a lot of money then. Yes, it is more now, but still, if I had continued to smoke I would be spending a shitload more now if I had lived more than a few years. I doubt I would have.

11. Excellent
I sort of quit cold turkey. I've been taking generic Wellbutrin for a while for a different problem and they say that drug can also help with cigarette cravings and withdrawal. So, I guess I might have had a little help.

12. I don't remember if they had drugs like that back then.
They might have, but I wouldn't have taken it anyway. I spent about three weeks wanting to rip my lungs out and chop them into bits with a battle axe. After that, it just went away. I remember walking outside in March of '85 and thinking, "what the fuck is that smell?" Then I realized, it was "Spring". I hadn't smelled it in a long time.
