2. Old Skoolers Downing and Tipton have gotten
better at playing their guitars over time.

That's not the case, usually--I'd say.

3. This is one of the few DVD rips I've done for listening in my car...
...I have this performance on one of my mix CDs. DVD rips are more time-consuming than I like, but I knew I wanted to be able to drive around with THIS one coming out of the speakers.

4. what do you use for ripping dvd audio?
I er, yeah, I wanna rip the audio from the G3 Tokyo DVD so I can get Petrucci's epic performance in my ipod.

5. Depends...
Pinnacle Studio rips the basic file, then Adobe Premiere exports the audio-only file, BUT...

...if the DVD has an audio track beyond basic English, Pinnacle...for some unknown reason...skips the basic English audio and grabs the director's commentary, Spanish, French, whatever. It will never grab the basic English track if there are multiple choices.

So the best way to do it is:

1). Get a copy of DVD Fab (http://www.dvdfab.com/). This program allows you to customize your rip and select the appropriate audio track.

2). Burn the file produced by DVD Fab to an intermediate DVD-R

3). Rip that file using Pinnacle Studio, export as an MPEG video file

4). Import that file into Premiere, export audio only as a WAV file

5). Open the WAV file in Easy CD-DA Extractor (http://www.poikosoft.com/) and export it as an MP3.

Like I said..."time consuming."
