Poll question: BEST Root Beer (warning: Huge list!)
Edited on Sun Dec-27-09 11:21 PM by AsahinaKimi

This is a hard one, because there are so many brand names of Rootbeer. For the poll I chose some and left
OTHER at the bottom. These could include any on this list, or those not on this list!

2. Hansen's diet

No sugar, no aspartame, uses Splenda, no caffeine, no carbs, no calories - but great flavor. My favorite by far. They make a regular one which uses cane juice for the sweetener but the diet one is outstanding.

7. Yes they carry it
Unfortunately I just read on Hansen's web site that they use high fructose corn syrup in their regular sodas, but at least they use Splenda and not aspartame in the diet ones. Aspartame gives me headaches.

Diet ones:

5. I have seen it at
Vons which is owned by Safeway so maybe Safeway stores carry it. I've seen it at Trader Joe's too. I bought some at Henry's markets which is a southern California chain of natural foods which I think is owned by Wild Oats, so maybe Wild Oats stores carry it. I would assume Whole Foods carries it but I'm not sure. Costco does carry the regular (non-diet) flavors of Hansen's, at least at the Costco I shop at. But Costco does not carry the diet ones. Hansen's has other great flavors, such as cherry vanilla, key lime, orange mango, etc. but their root beer is my favorite.

But around here I always see it at Winco.

I tried it, but just couldn't enjoy the flavor.

6. small correction...
Hansen's web site lists high fructose corn syrup as the sweetener for their regular sodas. I thought I read cane juice on a can but that must have been another brand. But their diet ones are sweetened with Splenda.

8. Henry Weinhards
I made an oops and chose A&W, but was thinking Henrys. A&W always tastes very astringent and chemically to me.

10. Tampa Bay Brewing Company
Handmade in small batches. Local, and the best I've ever had.

As for the mass produced stuff, I used to love Hires. I don't think I've seen it in stores for 10 years, but I loved that stuff.

32. If I could find it anymore: XXX Root Beer
:D

I remember Dad's and Hires growing up, but also Triple X. And I never knew it was founded in Galveston!

Those brands that make birch beers, though, are quite good usually. I guess I'll have to go take a look at Whole Foods again, unless Spec's has them :9
