Crazy ex posted this on her facebook today: According to sandy (caucasia), too much privelege leads to bad manners. i heart this statement becos it validates the horrible experiences i have had with some white people. wince.

I really want to comment about how crazy ex seems to enjoy her own outrage and how I have non-verbal learning disorder so I can't always say/do the right thing socially, but I'm sure she'd just say it was my white privilege.

Actually, I'm about to comment with this: "Yelling at a depressed person for being depressed is also bad manners. Even if they are white." Bad idea?

I can't really ever argue against catharsis though...it'll make you feel better in the short-term, it might just create more problems in the longer term than it was worth.

Me? I'd say nothing and rest comfortably-smug that her own status makes her look like a racist. There is a difference between identifying white privilege so that one can mitigate or overcome it and using it as a scapegoat for every problem in your mundane life. The second demeans the suffering of people actually being oppressed.
