Italy....Pic thread
We went to Verona, Italy after Christmas and took a few (300) pics. Thought I would share a few.

This is a statue of Juliette Capulet in the courtyard of her home. Rubbing her breasts is considered good luck. We got a kick out of the toddler with the rainbow gloves.

Juliette's balcony

Italian architecture

Tiny, narrow, crowded, city street

25. Aren't those old arenas something else?
We saw some in Libya, back in 2005.

BTW, your card arrived today! Thanks, sweetie...

2. Awesome pics... I used to go to Verona on school field trips
The older I get the more I miss Italy, with all its quirks and warts and all.

Italy is a fun place around this time of year. I am especially fond of New Year's Eve celebrations. I remember going to Bologna's Piazza Maggiore (its main square) and seeing big papier mache' old man being burned while a baby papier mache' with the new year was being celebrated.

4. Nice pics!
O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
C'mon up here already and rub my breasts. They're itchy.

Wow, was it this crowded?

13. It was insane
and there seems to be a cultural thing going on that demands that you write your name in pen or on paper all over the walls with your lover's name. A younger couple waited until everybody was out of Juliette's tomb and then took pictures of themselves kissing and then the girl got into the tomb and her boyfriend took pictures.

15. Yes, it should give your partnership a good fortune,
like it gave Juliet and ... Okay, scratch that. It's probably more like a reminder for divorce attorneys: "See this? Pietro and Maria Forever in luv? I made six gazillion lire out of it!" (That's about € 600.--) ;)

7. I ADORED Verona when I went in May of 08!
I thought I would hate it...the idea of Juliet's house turned me off because I read how the balcony is a big fake, put up there just for tourists. But the little courtyard and the house were so charming as was the rest of Verona that I just fell in love with the place. I particularly liked their Colosseum and they had a very nice outdoor market where I got some nice leather.

Were you on a tour or a family related vacation or just a trip?

14. How funny.
Everyone knows Europeans don't wash or shower.

It's a drinking fountain!

P. S. Why did you toss the towel on the floor?

16. You're pretty smart, ain't ya CMW?
but it relates to Americans...I was overjoyed to see a bidet...finally! I quickly found an excuse to go in and tinker with it, without actually using it...

HerrHerr had no reason to be curious about it, he's a fucking European afterall...

My best friend Caleb, an American, hadn't even ever heard of a bidet. He obviously started tinkering around with stuff...I had to clean up the straight shot of water that went flying onto the floor after he was done in the bathroom.

17. I'm not a smart man ... but I know what a bidet is.
I grew up with one. I don't think any more modern buildings have it anymore, and probably most Europeans would shrug their shoulders if you'd ask them what a bidet is (or come up with some very funny answers, like: "Georges Bidet! He wrote 'Moby Dick!' What do I win?") That's sooo 60's. ;)
