2. West Side Story!
Oklahoma is OK, like the song says. West Side Story is a masterpiece...IMHO, of course.

3. Interesting that both end in a knife fight.
Jud attacks Curly with a knife and accidentally stabs himself to death. And of course Tony is stabbed to death in the gang fight.

Even in 1943 R & H were introducing darker themes to the musical that were fully realized in West Side Story.

Close call but my vote goes to "Story".

11. Many years ago, the on-hold music at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow was the soundtrack to "Oklahoma!" I
often wondered if they did that to scare away hopeful visa-seekers.

19. You neglected put the exclamation point (!) in Oklahoma!
My Pops first saw Oklahoma! in Chicago during the Second World War. Servicemen were offered free admission to SRO performances. The theater set folding chairs in the aisle with the fire chief's blessings.

Pops took me to a stage performance of Oklahoma! in the mid-fifties, my first exposure to theater. I loved it. I believe Oklahoma!, the play, was better than the stage performance of West Side Story, but the movie, West Side Story beat Oklahoma! by a country mile.
