Steven Seagal. WTF is up with that fucker??? |
|
I've only ever seen brief clips on TV of any movies Steven Seagal has been in. I've seen him interviewed. He seems like a pompous arrogant asshole, mixed with a healthy dose of oafish lumbering dork. Talent of any kind is clearly lacking, and when he acts all tough-guy I find it seriously hysterical.
Now I see he's starring in some damn reality TV show about cops. I guess he wears a uniform and follows the cops around while they arrest criminals, and provides pompous asshole fake-tough-guy commentary, or something.
WTF is up with that guy, and how in the name of all that's holy did he become famous???? I find it all very disturbing.

|
And his "team" that he works with: all members of the Public Affairs Office.
So, he is sort of a cop.

"A 7th-dan black belt in aikido, Seagal began his adult life as an aikido instructor in Japan. He became the first foreigner to operate an aikido dojo in Japan.<2> He later moved to the Los Angeles, California area where he made his film debut in 1988 in Above the Law. Since then, Seagal has become a major action star, mainly due to his films of the 1990s, such as Under Siege (1992) and Under Siege 2 (1995) where he played Navy SEALs counter-terrorist expert Casey Ryback. In total his movies have earned in excess of $923 million worldwide.<3>
Seagal is also a recording artist and guitarist and the founder of Steven Seagal Enterprises. In addition to his professional achievements, he is also known as an environmentalist, an animal rights activist and a supporter of Tenzin Gyatso, and the Tibetan independence movement. Spiritualism and Buddhism play an important role in Seagal's life and he has been recognized by Tibetan lama Penor Rinpoche as a reincarnated Tulku of 17th century eastern Tibet, Chungdrag Dorje."

I want to hear the real dirt. Is he extra-squinty? Is his voice extra-growly? Does he try to act tough and do stupid tough-guy stuff, like tackle people that have surrendered and aren't even running away? Because that is how I've imagined it.
I'm telling you, I am fascinated.

25. The O.P. could easily fit Jesse VENTURA as well. But |
|
being one who would never pay (by ticket, rent, or buy) any of his movies, they ain't bad in a mindless wasting-time kind of way, the scenario being a nearly empty bar with nothing else in sight, either on the t.v. or in the bar beyond the barkeep and one or two other customers.

41. 2 things I liked about Segal |
|
Well, Actually only one I liked, and another I found funny.
I appreciated the fact that in at least some of his movies, they didn't do the "good guy gets hit 4 times, bad guy once, good guy 4 times, bad guy ones, good guy beaten to a pulp somehow pulls through and wins fight at the last second" formula. Instead he just beat the shit out of those opposing him.
And I found it funny in the most recent movie of his that i saw(no clue as to name or vintage, but in the past 5 years), he had gotten quite heavyset and did not move so fluidly as his younger self. And so they brought the fights to him. He hardly had to move to beat the crap out of everyone. The inaction star.
That said, I also got the impression that he might be a bit of a dick in real life. Most people are, and most "badass" types are even more.

44. "Under Siege" was a really good popcorn/action flick. He played the action hero |
|
really well in a few movies, and made a bunch of crappy ones too, had a bunch of personal issues, got fat, and lost it.
But at least he had "it" for a little while, which is more than most can say.
Yeah, "Under Siege" is totally "Die Hard on a Ship", but it's still good.

I know there are people posting in this thread that should know better. Seagal is probobly close to 58 years old. I think he is officially a 7th dan Akido Master with black belts in Kendo, Karate and Judo. He broke Connery's wrist while training him for Never say Never Again. He is very good friends with Jackie Chan, who respects him so much he asked him to be in Rush Hour.
He may be out of shape, and lousy actor...and kinda pompous...
But he can still kick your ass...
